Psychiatrist – Part‑Time
Join the State of Iowa’s Cherokee Mental Health Institute as a part‑time Psychiatrist. This position offers a Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. weekly schedule with rotating on‑call responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities- Provide medical and psychiatric care to patients, including consultation, supervision, and direction of CMHI medical staff.
- Supervise mid‑level providers (Physician Assistant, Nurse Practitioner) and develop treatment plans in collaboration with providers.
- Prepare psychiatric/forensic evaluations for courts, prescribe medications, and determine patient referrals.
- Offer after‑hours coverage as officer of the day on a rotating schedule.
- Deliver education, training, and conference teaching in psychiatry and general medicine.
- Participate in CMHI’s psychiatric internship program and mentor medical school graduates.
- Board Certification in Psychiatry required.
- Completion of a psychiatry residency program.
- Residency or internship program fulfilling CMHI internship requirement.
- License as a physician in the State of Iowa.
- Background check completion required.

CMHI provides active inpatient treatment to adults seeking acute psychiatric care in Cherokee, Iowa, a scenic town in the Little Sioux River Valley. The Institute offers individualized treatment plans, medication, group counseling, and activity therapies.
