Position Purpose

This position provides support to the Manager, Safety & Security as well as to the other Safety Department staff. This support includes report preparation, data gathering and management of safety database systems.

Essential Functions
  • Create and maintain incident/accident files. Report potential worker compensation cases to insurance carrier.
  • Enter monthly OSHA training information into Maintenance Connections database and maintain all training documentation.
  • Be a liaison between Multimedia Training System (MTS) and mill personnel.
  • Track and organize all Safety Management System Documents.
  • Work with department managers to schedule required Safety training.
  • Work with corporate personnel to post all safety documents in the appropriate location on company intranet.
  • Maintain and compile OSHA safety reporting including annual OSHA report for the facility.
  • Function as point of contact with Logical on the HAZMIN system for the facility Safety Data Sheets.
  • Be point of contact for general safety calls and inquiries from employees.
  • Assist with New Hire Orientation; includes classroom training, distribution of PPE, work clothing, boots, assign & maintain both personal and uniform locker information.
  • Assist with monthly Housekeeping Tours.
  • Provide all levels of administrative support, including but not limited to composing letters, memos and other documentation.
  • Provide Receptionist backup for the facility as needed.
  • Support security/medical staff administratively as directed by Manager.
  • Assist with monthly Random Drug testing.
Qualifications Competencies and Experience Required
  • Good computer skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and database management.
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Previous clerical experience.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Regular and reliable attendance.
Preferred
  • Experience working with regulatory agencies such as OSHA and/or EPA.
  • Previous experience as an Administrative or Safety Assistant.
  • Flexibility and willingness to constantly reassess priorities and troubleshoot.
  • Enthusiastic and approachable demeanor.
Education Required
  • Associate's degree.
Preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in Safety or related field.

Work Environment and Physical Demands The Employee Will Frequently Be Required To
  • Operate in an office environment, using standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and scanners. The role is partially sedentary (average of 5 hours per day), but requires filing and handling of materials, walking, bending, kneeling, standing, using hands to finger, hold and handle, reaching with hands and arms, and pushing, pulling, lifting or carrying items up to 30 lbs.

  • Work periodically in the mill environment with some exposure to heat/cold, walking/standing, stairs, noise and wearing safety equipment/clothing for protection from hazards.

Position Type - Work Hours - Travel Requirements
