Overview
The purpose of the class is to perform routine library functions and general clerical work in assigned service. Provides assistance to patrons with locating and checking out materials, shelving library materials and other clerical duties as assigned; and to provide professional and courteous customer service at all times. The class is given a general outline of work to be performed and is free to develop work methods and sequences;
work is reviewed periodically by supervisor.
- Assists patrons with locating resources and checking in and out materials.
- Updates patron records and issues library cards.
- Places holds on books and materials as requested.
- Inspects returned materials for damage, verifies due date and computes and receives any applicable fines.
- Retrieves deposited materials from book return.
- Prepares library for opening and closing.
- Ensures previously shelved items are in correct order.
- Assists the public in the use of technology, including software, online tools, and mobile devices.
- Provides pro-active customer service in assisting patrons in all areas of the library.
- Performs general administrative/clerical work as required, including but not limited to preparing reports and correspondence, entering and retrieving computer data, copying and filing documents, answering the telephone, etc.
- Attends trainings, meetings, workshops, conferences, etc., as necessary to maintain job knowledge and skills.
- Performs other related job duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Special Qualifications
Candidate must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. Excellent customer service skills.
Additional Requirements
The work is light/active work:
Exerting up to 35 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
Work is performed in a relatively safe, secure, and stable work environment.

Hiring & Employment NotesConditional Hiring Requirement
This position is designated as per assigned position and may be transferred to another branch facility in the Library system as needed. Persons hired or promoted into this position conditionally accept the position with the full knowledge they can be transferred as needed to support the Library’s needs.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position; typical Library hours and days of operation are Monday through Thursday 8:00am-7:00pm and Friday through Sunday 8:00am-5:00pm with the ability to work flexible hours when necessary. Employees must work 40 hours to maintain their full-time status. Employees must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, during emergencies or as requested.
