Position: Staff Nurse: Home Dialysis Nurse (Peritoneal and hemodialysis therapies) (60%-90%)

University of Iowa Health Care Department of Nursing is seeking a 60%-90% Staff Nurse to work for the Adult Home Dialysis Program.

Position Summary

To assess patients' nursing care needs, evaluate the effectiveness of care provided, and integrate nursing theory and research into clinical practice. Provide leadership to members of the nursing team to maintain patient care standards.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Apply nursing theory to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient responses to health and illness.
  • Assess patient health care preferences and expectations.
  • Collaboratively coordinate the continuum of care across settings.
  • Develop patient care plans based on patient condition, age, and psychosocial factors, prescribing interventions to attain expected outcomes.
  • Implement patient care plans according to patient priorities, including interventions identified through nursing diagnoses. Document/report interventions and patient/family response.
  • Collaborate and integrate contributions of patients and families into the multidisciplinary patient care plan.
  • Develop, coordinate, and implement transfer/discharge planning throughout the episode of care.
  • Implement nursing interventions in accordance with department, division, and/or unit policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors and staff.
  • Follow universal precautions.
Organization and Schedule

Location:

University Campus with occasional travel to patients’ homes.

Schedule:

Weekdays with varying start times (0800, 0830); weekday and weekend coverage with call (rotate every 3rd week); holiday coverage as needed. Inpatient and outpatient coverage.

Compensation

Salary:
Minimum $61,183 at 100% effort, commensurate with years of experience and percent effort.

Education

An Associate’s Degree in Nursing, a Diploma in Nursing, a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Professional Master of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader, or a Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA) is required.

Required Qualifications
  • Current license to practice nursing in Iowa is required by date of hire
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members
  • General computer skills
Desired Qualifications
  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or Master’s Degree in Nursing is highly desired
  • If a Baccalaureate degree in Nursing is not yet obtained, active enrollment in a BSN program is desirable
  • Previous RN dialysis and IV cannulation experience is desired
  • Knowledge of university policies and procedures is desired
  • Experience with Gambro Phoenix dialysis machines is desired
  • 1 year recent medical/surgical RN experience
