Staff Nurse - Eye Clinic

Sign-on incentive: Qualified candidates are eligible for a sign-on bonus up to $10,000.

UI Health Care Department of Nursing is seeking a Staff Nurse to perform tasks to assist members of the Nursing team in providing patient care under the direct supervision of the Eye Clinic Procedure Suite Nurse Manager.

• Applies nursing theory to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient responses to health and illness
• Assesses patient health care preferences and expectations
• Administers procedural sedation in a Minor Room setting
• Monitors patients during procedure/post-procedure and provides education
• Preoperative screening and patient education for Minor Room and OR settings
• Assists with procedures for a variety of ophthalmology patient populations
• Collaboratively coordinates the continuum of care across settings
• Develops patient care plans based on patient condition, age, and psychosocial factors to prescribe interventions that attain expected outcomes
• Implements patient care plans according to patient priorities; documents/intervenes and reports patient/family response
• Collaborates and integrates contributions of patients and families into multidisciplinary patient care plan
• Develops, coordinates and implements transfer/discharge planning throughout the episode of care
• Implements nursing interventions according to department, division, and/or unit policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors and staff; follows universal precautions

Percent of Time: 100%

Schedule: Monday-Friday 08:30-17:00. No weekends, no on-call, no holidays. After orientation, nurse may be assigned as the "late nurse" about once a week to once every two weeks, staying late only if an emergency arises.

Salary: $61,183 minimum at 100% effort, commensurate with years of experience and percent effort

• An Associate’s Degree in Nursing, a Diploma in Nursing, a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Professional Master of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader or a Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA) is required

• Current license to practice in the state of Iowa by the time of hire
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members as shown through written and verbal interactions
• General computer skills
• Coverage in minor room/procedure suite, triage, and pre-op teaching; procedural sedation experience preferred

• Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or Master’s Degree in Nursing is highly desired
• If BSN is not yet obtained, active enrollment in a BSN program is desirable
