Overview
The University of Iowa Health Care Walk-In Clinics is seeking a 100% (40 hours a week) Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) to primarily support our Iowa City/Corridor Walk-In Clinics (Urgent Care/Quick Care Clinics). ARNPs perform direct patient care, including diagnostic and therapeutic services within our Walk-in Clinics. UI Walk-in Clinics provide care to save patient trips to the emergency room. We are open evenings, weekends, and some holidays.
Our clinics assess a wide variety of patients from newborn to geriatric and provide access to care options not normally found at traditional walk-in clinics, including X-rays, IV fluids, and stitches. This position is in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with opportunities for learning and growth. We utilize a multidisciplinary approach to patient care to provide the most comprehensive care to our patients.
We have multiple clinics throughout the corridor area, as well as two locations in the Quad Cities, allowing patients to find a convenient location.
- Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioners (ARNP) will exercise autonomy in medical decision making and services provided.
- The ARNP will assist in educating healthcare students as they rotate through the respective departments and divisions and assist in research endeavors as appropriate. This position reports to the Medical Director within the UI Community Clinics and Lead APP within UI Community Clinics.
- Provide care responsibilities in both our Quick Care and Urgent Care Clinics, rotating clinical sites.
- Obtain medical history and perform physical examinations.
- Assess, diagnose and treat medical or surgical problems and record findings.
- Perform or assist in and interpret the performance of laboratory and related studies.
- Perform therapeutic procedures such as injections, immunizations, suturing and wound care, removal of foreign bodies, ear and eye irrigation and other clinical procedures.
- Assist in arranging continued care such as transfer to the Emergency Treatment Center; follow-up care or establishment of care with a primary care provider; and/or follow-up consultations (including referrals to appropriate specialty and subspecialty physicians as indicated by patients’ problems).
- Perform and screen results of special medical exams including electrocardiograms, radiography, audiometric and vision screening, tonometry, and pulmonary function screening tests.
- Instruct and counsel patients regarding physical and mental health matters such as diet, disease, therapy, and normal growth and development.
- Evaluate, treat and institute procedures essential to providing an appropriate response to urgent medical problems.
- Maintain awareness of health facilities, agencies and resources to facilitate appropriate patient referrals.
- Order medications and administer drugs.
- Direct other medical personnel and health professionals in the execution of patient care.
- Perform duties appropriate to a physician’s practice.
- Participate in educating health care students in various programs.
- Participate in committees within the division, department, College of Medicine and University of Iowa Health Care.
- Maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students and the public.
- Perform all other duties as assigned on a permanent or temporary basis.
