In April 2023, our Surgical & Trauma Care Unit (3RC) expanded to become a 48-bed adult surgical unit focusing on the care of orthopedics, trauma, and spine patients. We are looking for motivated individuals who are passionate about the quality of care they provide. The unit strives to provide patient-centered care that supports patients and families in coping with the physiological and psychological aspects of illness or injury.

Unit Staff Provides Care For Patients Who Experience
- Trauma injuries (motor vehicle accidents, fractures, skeletal traction, etc.)
- Reconstructive joint surgery (hip, knee, shoulder)
- Osteosarcoma removal and reconstruction
- Spine surgery
- Hand surgery
- Foot and ankle surgery
- Amputations
- Sports injuries
- Young adult hip preservation procedures
Characteristic Duties of our Staff Nurses include but are not limited to:
- Applies nursing theory to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient responses to health and illness
- Assesses patient health care preferences and expectations
- Collaboratively coordinates the continuum of care across settings
- Develops patient care plan based on patient condition, age, and psychosocial conditions that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes
- Implements patient care plan according to patient priorities, including interventions identified through nursing diagnoses. Documents/reports interventions and patient/family response
- Collaborates and integrates contributions of patients and families into multidisciplinary patient care plan
- Develops, coordinates and implements transfer/discharge planning throughout episode of care
- Implements nursing interventions according to department, division, and/or unit policies to maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors and staff. Follows universal precautions
Percent of Time: 90%, 36 hours per week
Schedule: Day shifts, weekend and holiday rotations as assigned
Location: Regular salaried position located in Iowa City, Iowa
Salary: $61,183 minimum at 100% effort to commensurate. This does not include differentials. Salary will vary based on years of experience and percent of effort.

Pay Differentials: Shift differentials for evening, night, and weekend shifts. Premium pay for additional shifts greater than 4 hours. Inpatient differentials of up to $5,000 per year based on percent time

- An Associate’s Degree in Nursing, a Diploma in Nursing, a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Professional Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader or a Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA) is required
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required
- Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members as demonstrated through written and verbal interactions
- General computer skills are required, including proficiency in managing multiple databases including Microsoft Excel
- Current license to practice nursing in Iowa is required by date of hire
