Position: Staff Nurse- Stead Family Children's Operating Room Weekend Option 60% (F/SAT 1900 - 0730)

Qualified candidates with a minimum of 2 years of experience may be eligible for a sign‑on incentive of up to $10,000.

The Stead Family Children’s Hospital Operating Room is seeking a Staff Nurse to apply nursing theory to the assessment diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient responses to health and illness, assess patient health care preferences and expectations, and collaboratively coordinate the continuum of care across settings. This position adheres to the standard weekend option schedule of rotating, 12‑hour shift between the hours of 3 pm on Friday and 7 am on Monday.

Care

Duties
  • Applies nursing theory to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient responses to health and illness
  • Assesses patient health‑care preferences and expectations
  • Collaboratively coordinates the continuum of care across settings
  • Develops patient care plan based on patient condition, age, and psychological, educational, and socioeconomic conditions that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes
  • Implements patient care plan according to patient priorities, which includes interventions identified through nursing diagnoses; documents and reports interventions and patient/family response
  • Collaborates and integrates contributions of patients and families into multidisciplinary patient‑care plan
  • Develops, coordinates and implements transfer/discharge planning throughout episode of care
  • Implements nursing interventions according to department, division, and/or unit policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors and staff
  • Follows universal precautions
Schedule

Weekend option line:
Friday and Saturday 1900–0730, no call requirement. Holidays that fall on the weekend are covered, with additional holiday coverage as needed.

Pay and Incentives

Pay Grade: $36,710 to commensurate (does not include inpatient differential of $6,000 annually). Some shifts may be eligible for a shift differential. Shift differentials are further detailed in the UI Health Care SNAHP manual. Qualified candidates may be eligible for a sign‑on incentive up to $10,000 based on years of experience.

Pay Differentials:
Shift differentials for evening, night, and weekend shifts. Inpatient differentials up to $6,000 per year (at 60 % effort). OR Premium Pay up to $6,000 (at 60 % effort).

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree in Nursing, a Diploma in Nursing, a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Professional Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader, or a Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA) required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team as demonstrated through written and verbal interactions.
  • General computer skills required.
  • Current license to practice nursing in Iowa required by date of hire.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or master’s degree in Nursing highly desired.
  • One year or more of Operating Room experience in the scrub and circulating staff nurse role.
  • If a Baccalaureate degree is not yet obtained, active enrollment in a BSN program is desirable.
  • Knowledge of university policies and procedures desired.
  • Two years recent OR experience preferred.
