Position: Supply Chain Technician II - CSS (1st shift)

Overview

Central Sterilizing Services is seeking a full-time Support Technician II (Supply Chain Tech II) on 1st shift. This position will be scheduled Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. It will be located within the Turn Center at the Medical Center University campus in Iowa City.

The CSS Support Technician at the TC Processing location oversees all support duties within this smaller satellite facility. This role includes managing bi-weekly disposable supply orders and ensuring all necessary items are stocked and available. The technician coordinates TC Holding for Completion trays and works closely with ISC staff to ensure trays are completed promptly. The position requires collaboration with the Support Team to identify and replace missing instruments in trays at the TC location.

The technician serves as a key point of contact for CSS Operations and Nurse Liaisons, helping to troubleshoot and resolve instrument and supply-related issues. They also create instrument equivalencies, build new instruments and products into the tracking system, and complete tray optimization requests to improve efficiency and accuracy in instrument management.

To support department operations, the technician updates TC backup locations, removes unnecessary instruments, and creates space for Clinic instruments that do not currently have assigned locations. They act as a resource on the assembly floor, providing guidance to staff to ensure proper tray assembly and adherence to quality standards. This role maintains workflow efficiency, ensures accurate instrument tracking, and supports overall operations of the TC Processing location.

Responsibilities
  • Provides leadership and functional supervision to assigned staff. Assigns work to staff to meet daily operational needs. Assists with the development and delivery of training to new staff. Maintains effective communication with customers, team and management. Demonstrates problem-solving skills; prioritizes needs and manages resources.
  • Oversees the daily medical-surgical supply chain operations of supply technicians.
  • Performs routine inspection of item expiration dates to maintain inventory quality and safety. Works with automated supply inventory systems (electronic storage units, bar code readers).
  • Provides assistance to nurses and other healthcare professionals to anticipate and address urgent needs. Executes activities that result in customer satisfaction, efficient medical-surgical supply management, and positive financial performance.
  • Manages medical-surgical inventory to maintain established par levels. Oversees and facilitates inventory ordering, monitoring and audit.
  • Solves problems when there are supply shortages or outages and, based on data, recommends operational and policy revisions to address disruptions.
  • Applies knowledge of the hospital-based electronic supply chain management system to resolve challenges. Serves as a functional resource for the system to staff and customers. Oversees the accuracy of inventory by proper accounting for all transactions.
  • Ensures supplies are available to health care providers when needed to support patient care.
  • Supports accurate supply documentation and cross-references items in electronic systems.
  • Utilizes reporting systems to analyze and resolve discrepancies. Uses reports to provide usage history data to management and clinicians.
  • Oversees and ensures the accuracy of safety stock and organizes supply areas to maximize efficiency.
Minimum Eligibility Requirements
  • Two years of work-related experience in supply management, receiving, warehousing, and distribution; or
  • Any combination of such experience and/or post high school education that totals two years.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and ability to meet fleet safety standards.
Special Qualification
  • Experience with in a sterile processing environment.
