Brief DescriptionThe Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a field‑based scientist who functions as an extension of the US Medical Affairs organization. MSLs develop and enhance professional relationships with medical thought leaders across Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Mississippi, providing medical information through scientific exchange and supporting Jazz Pharmaceuticals' product portfolio.
Essential Functions- Identify and develop peer‑to‑peer relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs) and healthcare providers in the epilepsy therapeutic area.
- Develop and execute territory plans aligned with US Medical Affairs plans.
- Communicate key clinical and research insights from KOLs to appropriate departments.
- Participate in medical education for HCPs through on‑site presentations, investigator meetings, national conferences, advisory boards, and regional meetings.
- Provide scientific support for additional activities such as congress staffing, advisory boards, and sales training initiatives.
- Serve as a scientific expert, maintaining up‑to‑date knowledge of the therapy area, Jazz products, emerging research, and the competitive landscape.
- Attend scientific congresses to stay abreast of developments and support KOL activities.
- Provide clinical presentations and respond to unsolicited questions in academic and community settings.
- Communicate emerging data and clinical experience with Jazz products, discussing benefits and risks objectively.
- Contribute to the development of the US Medical Plan and local strategies.
- Manage relevant budget for Medical Plan tactics as part of the broader Medical Affairs team.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional colleagues to ensure a key‑account‑management approach.
- Document adverse events and product complaints in accordance with Jazz policy.
- Behave ethically, uphold Jazz values, and act as an ambassador for the company.
- Research, critically analyze, and communicate complex scientific and medical information.
- Clear and concise communication and presentation skills.
- Excellent planning and organization with high attention to detail.
- Strategic mindset and self‑motivation; ability to work autonomously in a rapidly changing environment.
- Strong negotiation, interpersonal relationship building, networking, collaboration, and teamwork skills.
- Proficiency with digital platforms and tools.
- Excellent command of spoken English.
- Willingness to travel at least 60% of working days; driving required.
- Knowledge of geography, healthcare environment, and external experts in academia and the medical community preferred.
- MS/Advanced Practice Degree in a scientific/medical discipline with a minimum of 5 years experience in epilepsy, or MD, Pharm
D, or PhD. - Experience as a Medical Science Liaison with a strong track record of success strongly preferred.
- Experience in epilepsy strongly preferred; experience in neurology required.
- Valid driver’s license and residence within 60 miles of a major airport.
- Field position requiring 60‑80% travel.
