University of Iowa Health Care Department of Psychiatry is seeking a Senior Occupational Therapist to provide clinical services on the Integrated Multidisciplinary Program of Assertive Community Treatment (IMPACT) team. This role involves developing and refining evidence‑based treatment plans to maximize patients’ independence and quality of life through comprehensive treatment, support, and rehabilitative services including medication and symptom monitoring, case‑management, social and occupational role development, problem‑solving assistance, crisis intervention and supportive counseling.
This position requires advanced clinical reasoning, strong communication skills, and a commitment to driving positive patient outcomes and departmental excellence across various settings.
In addition to direct patient care, the Senior Occupational Therapist assumes a leadership role, providing mentorship and clinical supervision to occupational therapist assistants, students and junior staff members. They will be a practicing clinician and act as a clinical resource to other staff members. Key responsibilities include contributing to departmental strategic initiatives, managing complex cases, and ensuring all services adhere to regulatory standards and best practices.
IMPACT is an evidence‑based practice model designed to provide treatment, rehabilitation and support services to individuals diagnosed with a severe and persistent mental illness whose needs have not been well met by more traditional mental health services. The ACT team provides services directly to an individual in their home and community that are tailored to meet their specific needs and does so through collaborative work within University of Iowa Health Care and community agencies to assure appropriate psychiatric support and ensure courteous, helpful, and respectful services to program clients.
CharacteristicDuties And Responsibilities
- Provide exceptional patient care, evaluation, assessment and treatment appropriate for patients with complex or specialized needs.
- Collaborate within the multi-disciplinary IMPACT team to provide services consistent with the ACT model.
- Engage with patients, their families, and colleagues to build positive, trusting relationships.
- Represents UI Health Care in a positive and professional manner in all interactions.
- Provide quality patient care for persons with complex or specialized needs including evaluation, assessment and treatment appropriate for patient’s condition and age.
- Work collaboratively with clients, their families, and community partners to assist clients in achieving their treatment and recovery goals.
- Document patient care activities in the patient’s medical record according to established standards.
- Perform routine and assigned clinical and administrative tasks in an efficient manner.
- Provide community outings for patients on a regular basis which requires the use of a hospital vehicle. Driving record will be reviewed on a regular basis by Risk Management. (See University Risk Management policy for driving record compliance requirements).
- Operate University of Iowa community outreach vehicles in a safe and lawful manner.
- Adhere to all department clinical and personnel standards.
