Graduate Program Coordinator – Departments of Classics, Religious Studies, and American Studies
The Departments of Classics, Religious Studies, and American Studies is seeking a Graduate Program Coordinator.
As the Graduate Program Coordinator
, this position coordinates and manages all aspects of the graduate programs and certificates, as well as oversees all course management within the Department of Classics and Religious Studies and the Department of American Studies. The position works closely with the Departmental Administrator, DEOs, faculty, and staff in both departments to coordinate tasks to ensure efficient operations throughout the office. Provides support to the Directors of Graduate Studies and acts as a liaison of the department with the Graduate College, the Office of Admissions (for the graduate programs), and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Dean’s Office.
- Organize, coordinate, and monitor graduate degree programs and certificates within the Department of Classics and Religious Studies and the Department of American Studies, including:
- MA and PhD in Religious Studies
- MA in Classics, Greek, Latin;
PhD in Classics - MA in American Studies;
PhD in American Studies - Certificate in African American Studies
- Certificate in Gender, Women’s, and Sexuality Studies
- Certificate in Native American Indigenous Studies
- Certificate in Classics
- Additional Certificates as Department Needs Develop
- Serve as liaison and primary contact with prospective students, current students, faculty, staff, University administrators, and the public making inquiries concerning graduate programs.
- Collect and analyze data regarding graduate admissions, admitted students, graduation statistics, retention and placement of students, and other aspects of the graduate programs.
- Communicate policies and policy changes to graduate students.
- Coordinates all course management needs, both undergraduate and graduate, for academic areas including Classics, Religious Studies, American Studies, and other programs housed within these units. Submit courses to the Registrar in MAUI, monitor course enrollments, and correspond with faculty and students about course offerings.
- Coordinate graduate and undergraduate student scholarship process.
- Assists Departmental Administrator and DEOs with the editing and submission of the annual General Catalog copy.
- Assist in the progress of matriculated students through their graduate degree program, including course registration, examination paperwork, thesis submission, and graduation paperwork. Maintain student database and student files.
- Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and related experience is required.
Required Qualifications:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the capacity to demonstrate positive interpersonal skills and participate as a member of a team environment.
- Demonstrated working competency using Microsoft Office Programs, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Demonstrated careful attention to detail, strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks quickly and effectively, proactively establish priorities and meet deadlines, and solve problems independently and creatively.
Desired
Qualifications:
- Some knowledge of University Policies, procedures and regulations is highly desirable.
- Some (6 months to 1 year) administrative experience is desirable.
- Previous experience working with graduate students or programs.
- Experience with collaboration tools such as Microsoft Teams and SharePoint.
