Overview
To assist with the operations of the Belin-Blank Center Residential Summer Programs on the University of Iowa campus. Supervise students in grades 7-11, over 6 weeks in the summer to ensure the health and safety of all participants, facilitating out-of-class activities, chaperoning field trips, and assisting coordinators, teachers, and administrators.
Will be housed in the residence halls during the length of the contract, with room and board provided.
From this pool of applicants, we are also looking for several Lead Residential Advisors, a position with additional responsibilities and added compensation. Extra duties include coordinating group activities, problem-solving, and communicating issues to coordinators and administrators.
Responsibilities- Be self-motivated, energetic, and willing to be flexible in duties and interactions with students. Maintain a positive attitude at all times.
- Focusing on working as a team with others, such as instructors, coordinators, volunteers, or other collaborators.
- Use good communication skills when meeting with students, parents/guardians, co-workers, and supervisors.
- Oversee the care and safety of students participating in the program.
- Use professionalism and discretion when handling personal information about attendees.
- Demonstrate compassionate regard for others, especially when working with students who have different abilities, behavioral issues, or mental illnesses.
- Ability to demonstrate flexibility when working in different environments than planned, including extreme heat or severe weather that requires flexibility with students.
- Ability to change curriculum at short notice due to unforeseen changes in current plans.
- Take initiative to care for students, shared spaces including transportation, supplies, etc. when a supervisor is not available to consult with immediately and decisions need to be made efficiently and effectively.
- Typical experience is a minimum of two years of experience in a leadership position working with students.
- Interest and experience in working with students.
- Mandatory attendance at orientation training.
- Hold a valid driver’s license and meet and maintain the University of Iowa driving standards.
Mandatory Training:
June 8-12, 2026;
Monday – Friday – 9:00 am – 4:00 pm
7-week position - June 8 – July 24
Primary duty responsibilities from 8:00 am – 9:00 am and 4:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. every weekday and from 4:00 p.m. Friday through 9:00 a.m. Monday for the weekends.
Daily morning duties include escorting the students to breakfast and to classes.
Days off will be determined with supervisor.
LocationBelin-Blank Center Summer Programs will take place primarily on the University of Iowa Campus in Iowa City, Iowa.
Training requirements- Criminal Background Check upon hire
- Completion of University of Iowa Bloodborne Pathogens Training
- Minors on Campus Training
- CPR/AED/First-Aid certification or ability to obtain if necessary.
$900/week
