Weve been around here a long time, even before the Eastern Iowa Corridor was ever a thing. 40 Years ago, Maxwell Construction, Inc. began its humble beginnings with a dream, an old worn-out rubber-tired backhoe and a prayerful vision of the future. One small project after another, the beginnings of the finest underground workforce in Iowa started taking root.

Today, with over 50 full time employees, many of which have been here for over 25 years, are directed by our team of project managers and onsite supervisors. Our underground site utility projects are successfully managed and completed on time and on budget with the very best heavy construction equipment and technologies available to the industry.

Underground Utilities Crew Member

• Assist with underground utility installation including trenching, pipe laying, back filling, and compaction.
• Support horizontal directional drilling (HDD) and boring operations when needed (training provided).
• Communicate effectively with crew members, equipment operators, and supervisors.
• Read and interpret construction plans, utility locates, and supervisor instructions.
• Load, unload, and handle materials, pipe, and equipment on the job site.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area that meets Maxwell safety standards.
• Take initiative and assume a leadership role when appropriate to support production and safety.

• Experience with horizontal directional drilling (HDD), directional boring, or locating.
• Familiarity with drill rods, tracking equipment, or bore planning.

• Prior experience in construction labor, utility installation, or site work.
• Ability to read basic plans and follow written and verbal instructions.
• Strong understanding of jobsite safety and safe work practices.
• Ability to work outdoors year-round in various weather conditions.
• Physically able to lift, carry, and perform repetitive labor tasks.
• Valid drivers license required, CDL is a plus.
