What You Can Expect
As a Plant EHS Representative II at the University of Iowa, you will support the safe execution of utility plant operations and infrastructure projects across both University campuses. You will manage health, safety, and environmental activities for operating plants and construction projects tied to expansion and maintenance of the utility system. Your role serves as a bridge between field execution and corporate compliance, ensuring all work meets applicable federal, state, and local regulations while aligning with ENGIE health and safety programs.
You will work closely with project development teams, contractors, and operations and maintenance staff to support project success from planning through execution. You will develop an understanding of technical system designs and field activities while enforcing strict health and safety requirements on active jobsites.
Reporting to the Plant EHS Specialist, your roles and responsibilities include:
- Actively participates in the Health, Safety, and Environment program for construction projects and takes ownership of safety performance on contractor managed jobsites
- Serves as the subject matter expert for OSHA 1910 and OSHA 1926 standards
- Works directly with contractors to ensure contractor health and safety programs meet or exceed ENGIE health and safety standards
- Reviews contractor health and safety execution plans, including staffing and oversight requirements, to ensure compliance with ENGIE group rules governing contract work
- Conducts daily site inspections to identify hazards related to tools, equipment, machinery, and work practices
- Implements corrective actions to address identified safety risks and non compliant conditions
- Collaborates with project and operations teams to promote a strong safety culture across plant and project activities
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety, construction management, engineering, or a related field with a minimum of two (2) years of construction management experience; in lieu of a bachelor's degree, an associate degree with four (4) years of construction management experience or a high school diploma or GED with five (5) years of construction management experience will be considered
- Willingness to obtain required certifications within the first three (3) months of employment, including:
- OSHA 30 hour for general industry and / or construction
- Certified in any of the following: BCSP, CHST, CSP, CSMC, ASP
- CPR/AED/Basic First Aid certified
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications including Excel, Outlook, Word, and Teams
- Knowledge of construction management tools such as: ISN, Maximo, Procore, Bluebeam and GPI
- Strong Interpersonal skills with a proven ability to take the initiative to acquire new skills or knowledge without being asked. Demonstrating curiosity and willingness to explore new ideas or approaches to drive continuous improvement in safety.
- Comprehensive knowledge of construction processes and sequencing
- A strong attention to detail and documentation as evidenced by daily logs, KPI tracking, periodic reporting, and other standard construction management activities
- This role requires attendance at a worksite on a daily basis
- May require after-hours, deployment, or incident response
- Must be available to travel domestically up to 15% of the time and with the need for some overnight trips
- Must possess a valid U.S. driver's license/clean driving record for use of company vehicles around campus
- This position consists of 50% of outdoor work and requires the ability to visit and walk construction sites for extended periods in hot and cold weather conditions
- Ability to safely and frequently use ladders and stairways throughout plant and project work areas
- Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies
Salary Range: $69,500 - $106,490 USD annually
