Overview

Gloria Dei Lutheran Church is seeking a dedicated individual to serve as the leader of our church's operations and management. This is a part-time, in-person position averaging 20 hours per week with a flexible but consistent weekly schedule. We are looking for someone with a spiritual calling to support the mission and activities of our church community, bringing a positive attitude, keen attention to detail, and a heart for service in an administrative role.

Responsibilities

Operations & Facilities Management
  • Oversee daily operations of the church office and facilities
  • Schedule building use by external groups and coordinate their needs
  • Supervise maintenance and security of church property and equipment (elevator, copy machine, postage meter, etc.)
  • Oversee custodial staff
  • Manage door locking system and key access protocols
  • Coordinate parking rental and usage
  • Coordinate annual security/fire alarm test and fire extinguisher inspection
  • Annual grease trap reviews
  • Administer camera and door locking systems and schedules
  • Maintain accurate church member records and databases
  • Coordinate with bookkeeping staff on financial record keeping, budgeting, and payroll in partnership with the financial team
  • Track and coordinate staff vacation requests and paid time off
  • Manage licensing renewals and regulatory compliance
  • Implement and enhance administrative processes for improved efficiency
  • Initiate production and delivery of giving statements
  • Administer the church calendar
Member Services & Support
  • Administer membership records and updates
  • Prepare documentation and coordinate details for baptisms and funerals
  • Support new employee onboarding processes
  • Handle confidential member information with discretion
  • Attend weekly staff meetings
  • Attend Columbarium, Property, and Building Use Committee meetings
  • Work closely with church staff and leadership to align administrative functions with Gloria Dei's mission
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for operational inquiries
Required Qualifications
  • Commitment to the mission and values of our church
  • Proven administrative experience
  • Exceptional organizational and time management abilities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in office software including Google Workspace apps
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with integrity and discretion
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with capacity for collaborative teamwork
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and professional development
Compensation & Schedule
  • Hourly Rate: $22-$26 per hour, commensurate with qualifications and experience
  • Schedule:

    Part-time, 20 hours per week (flexible scheduling with consistent weekly commitment required)
  • Work Environment:
    In-person position at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Iowa City
