Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW)

Projects across Inverness & Peterhead – 35 hours per week | Permanent, Full-time

Ready to take your ECoW career to the next level?

Most Ecologists don’t apply for roles. They wait until the right opportunity comes along. This is that opportunity.

You’ll join one of Scotland’s most respected consultancies, supporting renewable energy and road infrastructure projects that genuinely make an impact. Expect variety, challenge, and the support you need to grow your career, without sacrificing work‑life balance.

This isn’t a “just another site job.” It’s a chance to:

  • Own your work and build long‑term project experience.
  • Gain training, mentoring, and support towards specialist licences/chartership.
  • Work across Scotland’s most exciting ecological and environmental projects.

What you’ll be doing

  • Leading ecological audits and onsite environmental checks.
  • Delivering toolbox talks and guiding contractors.
  • Producing site reports, Environmental Management Plans, and Species Protection Plans.
  • Balancing fieldwork, reporting, and stakeholder communication.
  • Operating in varied environments from remote wild areas to live construction sites.

What we’re looking for

  • 2+ years proven experience in ECoW site work or Ecology consulting.
  • Degree in Ecology, Environmental Management, or related field.
  • Experience applying Scottish/UK environmental legislation.
  • CIEEM membership (or working towards it and AEECoW a bonus).
  • Confident in habitat and protected species ecology (bats, birds, badger, otter, water vole etc.).
  • Full UK driving licence (4x4/off‑road ability desirable).
  • Strong communication, reporting, and organisational skills.

What’s in it for you

  • Salary up to £40,000 depending on experience.
  • Get paid for your travel (no ridiculous early morning to be on site for 8am!).
  • Investment in your training and career development.
  • Hybrid working and flexible hours.
  • Generous holiday allowance + pension.
  • Support towards specialist licences and chartered status.
  • Work‑life balance while still building a strong ecological career.

Why this role?

Because you’ll finally get the mix: challenging projects, real progression, and flexibility – this is an opportunity to work in an environment where your expertise is valued, and your career growth is actively supported.
