Overview
Aberlour Child Care Trust is leading a Partnership of Highland Council, Barnardos Highland Services, Right There and Gateway to provide practical support care and integration to Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children (UASC). The partnership provides support to asylum-seekers 16+ years in all areas of life including house management, community relationships, education, financial management, activities and volunteering. The service is dispersed, with an office base in Inverness.
Staff are required to provide support across the region – Inverness, Muir of Ord, Dingwall, Alness, Invergordon and Tain. Access to a vehicle and a driver’s license are essential to this role.
The funding is currently guaranteed until 31 March 2026, with hope of extension beyond this date.
Responsibilities- You will be an allocated keyworker for specific young people, while also working across the service with the team where required.
- Provide support that promotes integration, meets cultural needs, develops independent living skills and creates feelings of safety through nurturing relationships.
- Offer varied and bespoke support to meet individual needs, including learning to manage a house and finances, participating in activities and learning opportunities that build a sense of belonging.
- Maintain strong communication and adapt communication for young people for whom English is not their first language.
- Liaise with other agencies including health, education and social workers to develop collaborative relationships ensuring the young person remains at the forefront of the work.
- Flexibility to adapt to the needs of the service and young people; weekend work is required, with shifts up to 10 hours (starting from 8am to 8pm).
- Full-time posts are 37.5 hours per week; part-time applications are welcome. Applicants should state their preferred weekly hours in their application.
- There may be occasions where staff are needed to work outside these hours; this will be discussed in advance.
- Strong communication skills; you should adapt your communication to support the informal English learning of the young people.
- Access to a vehicle and a current driver’s license (essential).
- Ideally, a relevant professional qualification at SCQF level 7 or above, or a willingness to work towards this.
