Overview

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join the NHS Highland Moving and Handling Team. We are seeking a professional with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and relevant experience, to promote and deliver high‑quality Moving and Handling training, guidance and support for managers, staff and Moving and Handling Key Workers across our organisation.

As part of a dedicated and supportive team, the post holder will contribute to the development, co‑ordination and delivery of staff education and training across both clinical and non‑clinical settings. This includes designing and facilitating training programmes for a multi‑disciplinary workforce, auditing and evaluating practice, and providing expert advice in complex situations.

The role is central to NHS Highland’s commitment to safer practice, helping to reduce musculoskeletal injury risks and ensuring compliance with legislation, policy and the NHS Highland Moving and Handling Procedure.

Responsibilities

Key duties include: designing and delivering training programmes, supporting and mentoring Moving and Handling Trainers and Key workers, providing expert advice and on‑site guidance to managers and staff, auditing and evaluating practice, and contributing to the development of policy and procedures.

Qualifications and essential requirements
  • Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant life science.
  • Accredited moving and handling / teaching qualification (or willingness to achieve via Annex
    21).
  • Knowledge and practical experience in the management of Moving and Handling risks and delivery of training.
  • Strong IT and organisational skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Full driving licence.

The role requires the ability to travel throughout NHS Highland, including to remote and rural locations with overnight stays, to meet the needs of the service. Applicants must have a driving licence and access to suitable transport for work purposes. Pool cars are available for longer journeys.

This post may be offered as a development role under Agenda for Change Annex
21, providing an opportunity to gain the required qualifications within an agreed timescale (anticipated to be 1 year). If appointed under Annex 21 you will be paid 75% of the pay band maximum during the period of training.

  • Effective from 1st April 2026, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will be reduced from 37 to 36 hours. Part-time hours will be adjusted on a pro-rata basis. There will be an increase in the hourly rate to ensure that pay remains unaffected.
