Band 6: £41,608 - £50,702 (pro rata) per annum

Band 5: £33,247 - £41,424 (pro rata) per annum

We ideally require an HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist to join our friendly, dedicated and professional team who provide a high-quality Blood Sciences service for NHS Highland. The current vacancy includes Haematology and Biochemistry training. The candidate will then be assigned to an out of hours rota depending on space available. Candidates with an IBMS Registration Portfolio/Certificate of Competence assessment date pending may also be considered (Annex 21 would apply in such circumstances), and the successful candidate will be given the opportunity to complete the Specialist Diploma in Haematology in order to transition to Band 6.

Candidates who are HCPC registered/specialist BMS must have experience in an ISO 15189 accredited laboratory.

Candidates Can Also Apply In The Following Circumstances

No HCPC registration but have an accredited degree or IBMS approved equivalent and this will be at band 5/annex 21 as appropriate. Candidates must provide evidence of accredited degree or equivalence at time of application.

A post with Annex 21 applied is paid a percentage of the fully qualified rate during the period of training as follows:
Year 1: 60% of the pay band maximum;
Year 2: 65% of the pay band maximum, Year 3: 70% of the pay band maximum;
Year 4: 75% of the pay band maximum. Should you fail to complete the training required for this post the duties of your post may be reviewed.

The Blood Sciences Department has been newly equipped with Sysmex Haematology and Coagulation analysers and offers experience in routine & specialist analyses;
New siemens Atellica analysers for Biochemistry and immunoassay testing. In addition, the role will include Haemoglobinopathy & HbA1c analysis using Tosoh HPLC.

Once trained the successful candidate will be required to participate in the 24/7/365 out of hour’s rota.

The department provides a tertiary centre for NHS Highland due to the unique location of the hospital, handling specimens from a very wide geographic area including Skye and the Western Isles. The Blood Science department at Raigmore handles over 9.4 million tests per annum.
