Salary: £101,000 - £151,400 + car /car allowance + performance‑related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The role

Due to continued growth and investment, we have exciting opportunities for experienced leaders to head up our project engineering teams across the four Onshore Capital Delivery regions. We are looking for talented engineering leaders to help shape the future of our transmission network by managing the multi‑disciplinary design solutions across a £22bn investment programme. These are pivotal roles where you'll guide and empower the development of safe, innovative, and efficient engineering solutions throughout the project lifecycle from conception, through development and up until construction and energisation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead one of the four regional teams in Onshore Project Engineering, ensuring all design phases adhere to SSEN Technical Specifications and value engineering procedures.
  • Promote and manage safety, health, and environmental standards, ensuring compliance with CDM and ESQCR Regulations and supporting carbon reduction targets.
  • Oversee the development and delivery of technical design solutions, aligning project scope with business case, system requirements, and end‑user needs.
  • Collaborate with senior stakeholders to identify and mitigate engineering and quality risks, ensuring robust risk management throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Drive innovation and value engineering, refining specification requirements and implementing best practices to deliver out performance across the portfolio.
Successful applicants should
  • Have proven experience in leading and developing engineering teams, with a focus on empowering effective and timely decision making.
  • Hold Chartered Engineer status with an engineering degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Demonstrate extensive experience in managing and leading large, complex engineering and construction projects.
  • Have in‑depth knowledge of transmission owner statutory, regulatory, and licensed requirements, including safety and outage management.
  • Have strong technical expertise across all relevant engineering disciplines, with the ability to foster innovation and challenge conventional approaches.
  • Possess excellent leadership, communication, and analytical skills, with a proven ability to build collaborative teams and manage conflict effectively.
