THE JOBA physically demanding role that’s perfect for self-starters. The Driller’s Helper assists in obtaining core samples safely and efficiently. Daily responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Follow the Driller’s lead to complete tasks efficiently and safely, working as part of a tightly coordinated team.
- Manually handle heavy drill rods (approximately 80 lbs each) multiple times per shift - lifting, stacking, and connecting them with precision.
- Assist in the setup, operation, and teardown of drilling rigs and support equipment, including hydraulic systems and supply pumps.
- Monitor and manage inventory of mechanical parts, fuel, lubricants, and drilling additives to ensure uninterrupted operations.
- Support routine maintenance and minor repairs on drilling equipment such as oil changes, replacing hydraulic hoses, and troubleshooting mechanical issues.
- Maintain a clean and organized drill site, including clearing debris, managing waste, and ensuring tools are stored properly.
- Actively participate in safety protocols, including hazard identification, PPE use, and clear communication with the crew to maintain safety standards.

You’ll work on drill sites for mineral exploration across Canada, where your “office” could be the rugged mountains of BC, the forests of Northern Saskatchewan, or an underground mining tunnel in Ontario. Wherever you may be, you’ll experience unique terrain many people never get a chance to see.
THE SCHEDULEWork hard and have quality time off. The typical field-operations schedule is 4 weeks on and 2 weeks off. Scheduled days off leave plenty of time for travel or other pursuits. You will alternate between day shift and night shift each time you get sent out on a job. Field-operation roles require 12-hour workdays while living in a camp environment. Hy-Tech Drilling covers most costs associated with travel and accommodation(s).
WHATYOU NEED
Although experience is an asset, no formal training is necessary. This is a physically demanding role involving heavy lifting, repetitive tasks, and hands-on work with tools and machinery. You’ll be working in remote, rugged environments where conditions can be challenging, so resilience and adaptability are key. A mechanical mindset, strong work ethic, and clear communication skills will help you succeed as part of a close-knit crew.
To be eligible for employment, you must:
- Have a valid Canadian Driver’s Licence and must provide a current Driver’s Abstract annually.
- Pass a Physical Demands Assessment.
- Pass a Drug and Alcohol Test.
- Maintain a clear Criminal Record Check (site-specific requirement).
- Hold a valid First Aid Certificate (Not required to be eligible to apply).
- Standard First Aid with CPR/AED Level
