Job Description: The Pharmacy Technician is responsible for a variety of pharmacy tasks relating to the efficient provision of services at the WWFHC pharmacy under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist. These activities include receiving prescription orders, filling prescriptions, collection of co-pays, insurance verification, updating patient charts, answering patient questions and phone calls, and other duties as assigned by the Pharmacist.

I:
Essential Position Function and Duties
  • Serves patients by assembling, stocking and preparing prescriptions for dispensing by the Pharmacist.
  • Maintains records by recording and filling the prescriptions and orders of Providers.
  • Sorts, stocks, and labels medications and monitors inventory.
  • Responds to requests of patients and healthcare providers and refers inquiries to the Pharmacist.
  • Bills patient insurance carriers and collects co-pays via cash, check or credit card.
  • Complies with rules, regulations, and procedures to help maintain a clean and safe pharmacy by adhering to infection control protocols.
  • Conforms to Medicare, Medicaid and HIPAA regulations.
  • Performs other functions as determined by the Pharmacist.

  • Part III:
    Education, Experience
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of experience as Pharmacy Technician preferred.
  • Special Requirements, Licenses, and Certifications
  • Possession of an active Pharmacy Technician license in the State of Michigan.

    Knowledge,

    Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of general healthcare/pharmacy processes and procedures.
  • Knowledge of various insurance plans and government programs and how to verify patient coverages.
  • Experience with widely used computer software i.e. Microsoft Office, Outlook and healthcare/pharmacy software for patient data/files.
  • Skilled with working in a complex work environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times and maintain organizationally appropriate relationships.
  • Knowledge of organizational policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of computerized medical charting.
  • Skilled in exercising initiative, appropriate judgement, problem solving and decision making.
  • Skilled in developing and maintaining effective relationships with patients, customers and staff.
