Overview

Position Title: Dual Language Elementary Classroom Teacher (Spanish)

Department: Multilingual/Elementary Classroom Teachers

Licensure: Professional Educator License (PEL)

Endorsement: Self-Contained General Education K-9, Bilingual Endorsement (Spanish);
Must speak, read, and write Spanish

Classification: Certified

Reports To: Building Administration

Supervisory Responsibilities: N/A

Job Summary

Under general supervision, the employee will:

  • Guide student progress toward established district standards through high-quality instruction in both English and Spanish. Implement best-practice instructional strategies aligned to the Two-Way Immersion (TWI) Dual Language model, foster an inclusive and culturally responsive learning environment, and support the development of bilingualism, biliteracy, academic achievement, and cross-cultural competence for all students.

Duties And Responsibilities

Planning, Preparation and Instruction

  • Align lesson content to district curriculum, grade-level standards, and benchmark objectives in accordance with the Dual Language program model.
  • Provide standards-aligned instruction across content areas (language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies) in English and Spanish.
  • Implement the district's Dual Language language allocation model to support balanced language development:
    • Kindergarten Grade 1: 80% Spanish / 20% English
    • Grade 2: 70% Spanish / 30% English
    • Grades 3-4: 60% Spanish / 40% English
  • Plan engaging, rigorous learning experiences that include authentic, real-world applications of knowledge.
  • Facilitate student-centered and self-directed learning experiences that support linguistic and academic growth. Differentiate instruction and provide appropriate scaffolds to meet the needs of bilingual learners.
  • Plan and implement formative and summative assessments to monitor student learning in both academic content and language development.
  • Utilize multiple sources of student data (academic, language proficiency, and behavioral) to inform instruction and targeted interventions.
  • Prepare clear, organized lesson plans and materials, including plans for substitute teachers.

Classroom Environment/Management

  • Maintain a safe, inclusive, and student-centered classroom environment that supports bilingual and bicultural development.
  • Establish and reinforce classroom routines, procedures, and expectations that promote engagement, respect, and responsibility.
  • Develop a positive classroom culture that values linguistic diversity, cultural identity, and collaboration.
  • Encourage student ownership of learning and the classroom environment.

Communication

  • Communicate regularly and effectively with families regarding curriculum, classroom expectations, and student progress, using English and Spanish as appropriate.
  • Conduct parent-teacher conferences and meetings to support student learning and family engagement.
  • Establish respectful, age-appropriate communication with students.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with colleagues, specialists, intervention teams, and administrators.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with special education and support staff to address academic, linguistic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs.

Technology

  • Appropriately integrate prescribed technology/instructional media to enhance instruction and learning.
  • Understand legal, ethical and social issues as they apply to responsible and acceptable use of the Internet and other digital resources.
  • Provide for safe storage and proper use of technology materials, equipment and tools.
  • Incorporate current and research-based technology seamlessly into the classroom.
  • Use resources for adaptive/assistive devices that provide access for all students.

Accountability

  • Implement accommodations and modifications outlined in IEPs, 504 Plans, and other student support plans.
  • Maintain accurate records related to attendance, grading, student performance, and required documentation.
  • Analyze student data to support instructional decision-making and continuous improvement.
  • Comply with district, state, and federal requirements related to Dual Language and multilingual learner programming. Participate in ongoing professional learning, collaborative planning, staff meetings, and training related to bilingual and dual language education.
  • Serve as a resource for effective bilingual instructional practices and dual language pedagogy.
