POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Responsible for development, implementation, and maintenance of high quality breastfeeding education for parents and families as well as nursing and medical staff, prenatal/postnatal education, consultation and resource.
Shift: Days
Hours:
Schedule: Monday - Friday. Overnight shifts occasionally required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Proper latch on
- Proper positioning
- Nipple and breast care
- Feeding schedules
- Demonstrates a courteous and professional manner through interactions with internal and external customers.
- Identifies unit problems, proposes possible solutions and successfully adapts to changes.
- Incorporates fiscal responsibility through the provision of efficient and cost effective care.
- Uses discretion in handling confidential information.
- Collaborates in the performance improvement process.
Education
Minimum:
- Bachelors Degree in Nursing Required
- Maters in Healthcare Preferred
- Registered Nurse License
- Current certification through the International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC)
- American Heart Association BLS certification
- American Academy of Pediatrics NRP certification
- Must be able to speak/understand the Spanish Language
Experience:
- Minimum of 1 years experience working as a Lactation Consultant in the healthcare setting preferred.
- 3-5 years of Maternal Child RN experience.
- Previous program development and implementation experience preferred.
- Must have advance knowledge of prenatal nursing practices, anatomy and physiology, pregnancy, labor, birth, lactation, infant care and clinical breastfeeding issues.
- Able to demonstrate exceptional communication, collaboration, teamwork and flexibility.
