Location: Indianola, IA

Responsibilities
  • Patient Experience
    • Engage patients, greet them and offer assistance with products and services.
    • Resolve patient issues promptly and answer questions to ensure a positive experience.
    • Model and share customer‑service best practices with the team to deliver distinctive service.
    • Promote Walgreens healthcare services (consultation, medication management, drug therapy reviews, immunizations, diagnostic testing, and patient outcomes) to shift the pharmacy role from transactional to interpersonal.
    • Participate in community events as requested by the Store Manager.
  • Operations
    • Provide counseling on medication usage, side effects, interactions, and alternatives.
    • Perform pharmacist tasks: compounding, drug therapy reviews, verification, and medication management.
    • Dispense prescriptions accurately, ensuring compliance with regulations and company policies.
    • Establish procedures that promote efficient workflow, oversee staff scheduling, and coordinate activities.
    • Ensure Good Faith Dispensing procedures are followed for controlled substances.
    • Collaborate with the Store Manager to develop new business opportunities.
    • Maintain proficiency with pharmacy systems and support staff and patients with IT.
    • Process insurance claims accurately and resolve payment rejections.
    • Perform clinical and wellness services such as immunizations and diagnostic testing.
    • Maintain the pharmacy department’s maintenance, housekeeping, and improvements.
    • Prepare and submit required records and reports to state and federal authorities.
  • People & Performance Management
    • Partner with the Store Manager for hiring, discipline, termination, and compliance with employment laws.
    • Set expectations and goals, recognize improvements, and manage performance reviews.
    • Identify high‑potential team members and support career progression.
    • Address employee relations concerns and maintain morale.
  • Training & Personal Development
    • Maintains required licensing and certifications, including immunizer status.
      • BS/Pharm‑D and current pharmacist license in the district.
    • Continuously update knowledge through journals, Walgreens publications, and trainings.
    • Complete required education credits and training modules.
    • Seek professional development via self‑assessment and mentor coaching.
  • Communications
    • Support the Store Manager by communicating corporate health and wellness information to staff.
  • Business Performance Management
    • Analyze pharmacy financials, customer service, and inventory data; seek improvement opportunities.
  • Business Planning
    • Build relationships with local medical community and promote pharmacy services.
      • Support the Store Manager in expanding community health and wellness awareness.
Basic Qualifications
  • BS in Pharmacy or Pharm‑D Degree from an accredited institution.
  • Active pharmacist license in the district states.
  • Certified Immunizer or willingness to become one within 90 days of hire.
  • Minimum of 1 year of pharmacy experience, including prescription filling, recordkeeping, compliance, operations, software, and insurance billing.
  • Working knowledge of state and federal controlled substance laws.
  • Leadership rating of at least 3.0 on the last performance review (internal candidates only) and no disciplinary actions in the past 12 months.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Supervisory experience in planning and directing pharmacy staff.
  • At least 6 months pharmacy experience with Walgreen Co.
  • Leadership rating of 3.7 or above on the last performance review (internal candidates only).
Salary Range

Pharmacy Manager: $5,863.20 – $6,438.20 Bi‑Weekly
