Job Details
• Surgical Progressive Care Unit (PCU) at an academic teaching hospital with near-ICU level acuity,
• Patient population includes post-surgical ENT (neck dissections, mandibulectomy), thoracic (esophagectomy, lobectomy, pneumonectomy), general surgery (pancreatic, bowel/liver resections), urology (urinary diversions, cystectomies, RPLND), and medical overflow patients,
• Staffing ratio of 1:3-4,
• Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00-07:30),
• Every other weekend required; consecutive weekends may be required based on operational needs,
• Charting via Cerner (experience required),
• Floating may be required to different levels of care (Med-Surg, PCU, ICU) within the hospital or to a nearby affiliate hospital - refusal to float may result in contract termination,
Job Requirements
• Active IN or Compact RN license currently in hand,
• Nursing degree from a university accredited by ACEN or CCNE at time of graduation,
• Current AHA BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA or RQI accepted),
• Minimum 18 months-2 years of RN experience required,
• Proficiency in cardiac monitoring (on-unit monitoring) and management of non-titratable cardiac drips,
• Experience with chest tube management, fresh trachs, feeding tube care, epidurals, and external BiPAP/CPAP,
• Experience with IV insulin protocols and titration of insulin drips,
• Experience with total laryngectomy care and Doppler flap checks,
• Cerner EMR experience required,
Additional Information
• As a teaching facility, travelers must be willing to precept and/or have students shadow them during their assignment,
• Charge nurse responsibilities may be assigned as needed, with training and resources provided,
• Up to 5 days of RTO may be approved; requests exceeding 5 days require additional approval,
• Must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays,
• Local candidates are not accepted for this PCU position,
• Former permanent or PRN employees of IU Health must have been separated for at least 12 months before being considered as a traveler,
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply,
• Indiana-licensed RNs (non-compact) are not eligible for this position per facility policy (PCU/ICU/ER/MS roles); this restriction does not apply to Compact license holders whose state of residence is not Indiana
