Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring at least 2 years of recent PCU experience and proficiency in cardiac monitoring.
Responsibilities- Work in a surgical Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with near-ICU level acuity
- Patient population includes ENT, thoracic, general surgical, urologic, and medical overflow cases
- Typical patient ratios are 1:3-4
- Cardiac monitoring and management of complex surgical patients required
- Use of Cerner EMR system is required
- Day shift position with 3x12 hour shifts from 7:00 to 19:30
- Weekend work required every other weekend with possible consecutive weekends based on unit needs
- Floating required to Med-Surg, PCU, ICU, and affiliate hospitals as needed
- May be required to provide charge coverage based on operational needs with available training and resources
- Expected to precept or be assigned students to shadow during assignment
- First-time travelers are accepted for this position
- Absences may require shifts to be made up during the contract or added to the end of the assignment
- Must be willing to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- Perm or PRN employees must be separated from employment for 12 months to be eligible
- Refusal to float may result in termination of contract
- Up to 5 days of requested time off can be auto-approved
- Active IN or compact RN license in hand
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA or RQI accepted)
- Minimum 2 years of recent PCU experience required
- Cardiac monitoring proficiency, including management of chest tubes, fresh trachs, feeding tubes, post-op patients, epidurals, non-titratable cardiac drips, IV insulin protocols and titration, external BiPAP/CPAP, total laryngectomy, and Doppler flap checks
- Proficient with Cerner charting system
- Must have graduated from an ACEN or CCNE-accredited nursing program
- Not accepting local candidates for PCU positions
