JOB TITLE:
Grounds and General Maintenance Technician
FLSA CLASSIFICATION:
Non-exempt, hourly employee.
WORK DAYS: 261 days (including paid holidays and paid vacation time).
STANDARD HOURS PER DAY: 8 hours per day (not including a 30-minute unpaid duty-free meal break).
WORK YEAR:
The work year for the Grounds and General Maintenance Technician begins on the first weekday in July, and ends 12 months later on the last weekday in June.
SALARY SCHEDULE & BENEFITS:
The Grounds and General Maintenance Technician is paid on the "Maintenance, Grounds and Skilled Personnel" salary schedule, and is eligible for benefits on the "Support Staff" benefits schedule.
REPORTS TO:
The Grounds and General Maintenance Technician is directly supervised by the General Maintenance Foreman. Both the Grounds and General Maintenance Technician and the General Maintenance Foreman are supervised by the Assistant Director of Facilities Support.
SUPERVISES:
The Grounds and General Maintenance Technician does not supervise any other employee(s).
GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Under direct supervision, the Grounds and General Maintenance Technician performs basic maintenance work related to the care and upkeep of school district property. The Grounds and General Maintenance Technician generally functions in an entry-level capacity, and functions independently within the scope of abilities, or participates in projects as part of a work crew. Work areas include, but are not necessarily limited to, grounds maintenance, pavement maintenance, and tree trimming.
Work objectives are to maintain cleanliness, order, and environmentally safe conditions of school district property. Performs related work as directed.

While the following tasks are necessary for the work of the unit, they are not an essential part of the purpose of this position and may also be performed by other unit members.
High school diploma or GED is required.
Any previous experience demonstrating ability to fulfill the physical and dexterity requirements of the work, as applicable to the assigned maintenance area (i.e., grounds maintenance, pavement maintenance, tree trimming); or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Requires the ability to obtain and maintain a valid Indiana driver's license to operate district vehicles.
Ability to perform the essential functions, meet the performance aptitudes, and fulfill the physical/sensory/environmental requirements of the job (with or without reasonable accommodations) is required.
