Surgical Enhanced Technologist role at Indiana University Health
Overview
The Ambulatory Surgery Center - Harcourt Rd is a multi-specialty (ENT, Orth, Hand, Plastics, etc) ambulatory surgery center on the northside of Indianapolis at 86th and Harcourt. It features fully equipped operating rooms and surgeons who specialize in a wide array of procedures. This is a full-time day position with no weekends, call duties, or holidays.
Responsibilities
- Provide service and support before, during, and after surgical procedures.
- Assist in ensuring the presence and proper arrangement of surgical equipment, supplies and instrumentation in the operating room prior to each operation.
- Provide assistance to the surgeon in the operating room as allowed by professional and legal standards.
- Assist in the turnover of the operating room after the procedure, ensuring proper routing and/or processing of all specimens, equipment, instrumentation and supplies.
- Work as a member of the surgical team with surgeons, anesthesiologists, registered nurses, and other surgical personnel.
- Train colleagues on various skills and tasks and act as a resource or mentor to less experienced colleagues.
Qualifications
- Requires a High School Diploma/GED.
- Requires certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist obtained from the NBSTSA.
- Requires Basic Life Support Certification.
- Must be expert in advanced technology within the specialty service, including lasers, robotics, navigational technology, Implantable Electronic Devices (Pacemakers, VADs, VNS), etc.
- Requires documentation of 19 Contact Hours of Continuing Education.
- Requires knowledge of the name and function of surgical equipment and instrumentation.
- Requires strict adherence to policies and regulations regarding maintenance of sterile field.
- Requires completion of selected documentation for review by the region's Surgical Technologist Steering Committee and participation in an interview with the committee.
- Requires a minimum of 1 year OR experience in the Skilled Technologist role or relevant experience.
