How you make a differenceThe Medical Records Analyst performs specialized functions requiring strong detail-oriented skills in quantitative analysis. They are responsible for conducting comprehensive and periodic reviews and audits of Electronic Medical Records (EMR) for both active and discharged patients. This role involves identifying technical errors and potential legal or clinical issues, ensuring each instance is appropriately addressed.
Key Responsibilities- Medical Records Compliance & Audits – Conducts monthly quantitative reviews to ensure adherence to guidelines, accreditation, and licensure requirements; participates in EMR revisions and quality improvement activities.
- Records Management & Privacy – Ensures timely and appropriate responses to authorized medical record requests in compliance with HIPAA and facility policies; maintains accurate documentation of disclosures and serves as the facility’s Privacy Officer.
- Billing & Coding Support – Assists the Business Office with proper Medicare and Medicaid coding to support accurate billing processes.
- Staff & Auditor Support – Facilitates access to medical records for facility staff, external auditors, and reviewers; provides feedback on documentation deficiencies to the multidisciplinary team.
- Supervision & Leadership – Oversees medical records staff, managing hiring, disciplinary actions, performance evaluations, and time-off approvals while keeping the supervisor informed of key activities and issues.
Education
- Associate’s degree in Health Information Management or related field.
Experience
- Three (3) years of experience in hospital information management in a record auditing capacity.
Licenses/Certifications
- Valid certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) is preferred.
