Role Overview :

The Governmental Affairs Intern will assist with logistical coordination and program support for an education and outreach initiative aimed at fostering dialogue around key housing and community development issues among practitioners, policymakers, and community stakeholders. The intern will collaborate with the IHCDA Director of Industry and Governmental Affairs and the Governmental Affairs Liaison in engaging with Federal, State, and Local elected officials, as well as their support staff, to assess and influence legislation and policies aligned with IHCDA's mission and objectives.

Hourly Rate:

The hourly wage for this position traditionally starts at $16.24 per hour for current undergraduate students and $17.24 per hour for those with an earned bachelor's degree.

A Day in the Life:

The Industry & Governmental Affairs Intern will engage in a variety of agency activities. Responsibilities include completing designated projects and tasks, as well as supporting general office functions such as responding to inquiries from customers and constituents, preparing for meetings, conducting research, and other administrative duties.

* Policy Research:
The intern will collaborate with the Director of Industry and Governmental Affairs to analyze current policies and industry standards related to workforce housing. This will include researching initiatives in other states and providing support for various agency committees and task forces.

* Impact Analysis:
The intern will assist the Director in identifying key performance indicators for existing and potential agency programs and initiatives. This will involve analyzing trends and policies to evaluate program effectiveness.

* Event Coordination:
The intern will support the planning and organization of events focused on opportunity zones and modular housing, aimed at engaging key stakeholders and housing leaders. These events will facilitate high-level policy discussions, problem-solving, and the sharing of ideas to foster long-term solutions in affordable housing.

* Relationship Development:
This position offers an insider's perspective on working within state government and emphasizes the importance of relationship-building skills. In addition to participating in phone and virtual meetings, providing constituent assistance, and conducting research, the intern will undertake a summer-long project to compile a comprehensive contact list of elected officials in Indiana, including detailed information.

* Monitoring Responsibilities:
The intern will assist in tracking the progress of the Statewide Housing Inventory Platform and communicate with municipal partners involved in distributing CARES Act funds.

* Collect data from publicly available sources.

* Compile statistics from IHCDA program records.

* Analyze trends in program outcomes relative to the general population.

* Prepare a final report summarizing findings and analysis.

What You'll Need for Success:

* Currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student at an accredited post-secondary institution, with a minimum of one year of undergraduate coursework completed.

* Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills.

* Must have a proactive approach, demonstrate initiatives, and the ability to learn quickly.

Benefits of Employment with the State of Indiana:

This seasonal position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven (11) month continuous period.
