Responsibilities

We are growing and have an opportunity for a Commercial Underwriter. This role primarily underwrites lending opportunities, balances risk and growth, and ensures loan structures are appropriate and consistent with bank lending standards. You will assign an asset quality rating and perform detailed financial analyses to understand credit risk in a fast-paced, high-volume environment. You will collaborate with Relationship Managers and internal support staff to provide credit and franchise lending expertise to underwrite and monitor the portfolio.

In-office work locations:
Evansville IN, Indianapolis Parkwood, Troy MI, Louisville Market Street and Nashville Gulch.

Salary

The salary range for this position is $60,000 - $165,100 per year plus bonus. Actual offers vary based on responsibilities, candidate skills and experience, education, and geographic location.

Key Accountabilities
  • Underwrite credit requests with due diligence, risk assessment and asset quality ratings (AQR).
  • Meet quality standards per ONB underwriting guidelines; reviews by Loan Review, OCC, etc., may identify issues.
  • Meet or exceed productivity targets for annual credit approval memorandum (CAM) volume.
  • Produce high-quality, accurate analyses while maintaining efficiency in a fast-paced environment and meeting client-driven timelines.
  • Partner with Relationship Managers and Treasury Management Partners; provide credit expertise, structure loans per ONB guidelines, communicate risks and options to RM, and seek win-win solutions.
  • Deliver strong internal customer service and adopt new processes/tools as available.
  • Develop knowledge of assigned segmentation and portfolio using internal/external resources.
  • Collaborate with revenue-generating teams and other Credit support to ensure a collaborative environment.
  • Monitor portfolio by accurately assigning AQRs and working with RMs to review trend analyses, delinquencies, maturing notes, financial information, covenants, and reports as appropriate.
  • Prepare credit data in SAAAS and Upgrade Hurdles as needed, in coordination with Relationship Managers.
  • Monitor overlines and risk reports related to Treasury Management/ACH as appropriate.

Qualifications And Education
  • 3-7 years progressive experience in Commercial Credit, with increasing responsibility.
  • Ability to independently analyze financial statements and assess risks across industries.
  • Basic knowledge of loan structuring, borrowing and lending regulations; ability to comply with ONB policies and standards.
  • Strong decision-making and communication skills in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
  • Comfortable working in a collaborative team and as an independent thinker.
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or equivalent experience.
