We’re looking for an Electrical Engineering Department Manager in Indianapolis, IN who is excited to work on projects that enable the heart of our clients’ business. You’ll have the chance to work on state‑of‑the‑art industrial and commercial facilities, driving schedule and technical quality of challenging engineering tasks while managing a multi‑discipline, highly interactive team that designs control systems for a variety of processes.

Position Summary

Manage the electrical department as an experienced Electrical Engineer, working with minimal supervision. Apply comprehensive electrical engineering principles, industry standards, and their application to our clients’ needs. Occasionally lead engineering efforts for tasks, provide guidance to less experienced personnel, and oversee all engineering effort within the department.

  • Function as the Department Manager by providing direction and oversight for departmental administrative tasks.
  • Ensure that the total expectations of project deliverables are met, reviewing quality, schedules, and budgets.
  • Provide department staff forecasting, managing staff levels to balance resources with work load.
  • Hire, recruit, and maintain skill sets required to execute our work through training.
  • Evaluate employee performance and make recommendations for career advancement.
  • Monitor the quality of work performed within the department and make design or corrective decisions as required.
  • Consult with Lead Engineers and Project Managers on technical problems and staffing requirements.
  • Assign department personnel to project teams and direct the work of those assigned as Lead Engineers.
  • Provide technical guidance and oversight to less experienced personnel as necessary.
  • Act as a mentor and coach, providing technical instruction as required.
  • Assist in project proposals by ascertaining scope, determining design budgets, and serving as an expert during proposal presentations.
  • Research/resolve technical challenges and other unusual design issues that affect one or more projects.
  • Work with others to incorporate code and safety requirements into designs.
  • Maintain effective communications with department members, operations management, and clients.
  • Review and approve time sheets and expense reports for department personnel.
  • Represent the electrical department in weekly office management meetings and monthly project review meetings.
  • Drive growth and continuous improvement within Operations.
  • Business development and marketing responsibilities within the practice area.
Here’s what you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • At least 15 years of electrical experience desired; experience with industrial/cGMP manufacturing projects is preferred.
  • Life Sciences industry experience is required.
  • Experience using or familiarity with current design software (AutoCAD, Smart Plant, Revit, VISIO, Bluebeam, others).
  • Must have experience leading the design on a variety of projects of different sizes.
  • Must have the ability to travel as needed by project requirements.
  • Working knowledge of ACAD and REVIT.
  • Solid working knowledge of NFPA 70 (NEC).
  • Work collaboratively to achieve overall project delivery goals.
  • Advanced knowledge of PLC, DCS, and other controls applications.
  • Advanced knowledge using Smart Plant Instrumentation (InTools).
Ideally you’ll also have
  • Professional Engineer (PE).
  • Strong communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
