Electrical Commissioning Engineer (Data Center Experience)
InPwr, Inc. is looking for a seasoned Electrical Commissioning Engineer to join our team. We are an award-winning electrical design-build firm with offices nationwide. We are seeking candidates with data center experience to oversee installation, testing, and verification of electrical systems and equipment to ensure they meet design specifications before operation.
Skills and Requirements
- Bachelor’s in science of electrical engineering.
- 3-5 years of working experience in Data Centers.
- Experience with HV Substations, MV SWGR, LV SWGR, Busway, UPS, Generator, PDU, RPP, and related systems.
- NFPA 70E
- OSHA 10
- Complete safety certifications and load soak planning.
- Script development for L2-L5; daily reports.
- CAD, Bluebeam, and related tools.
- Ability to work on-site and travel nationally (75% travel expected).

An Electrical Commissioning Engineer oversees the installation, testing, and verification of electrical systems and equipment to ensure they function correctly and meet design specifications before operation.
Essential Functions
- Planning and Coordination: participate in planning and coordination of commissioning activities with project managers, design engineers, construction teams, and other stakeholders to ensure proper scheduling and execution.
- Installation Verification: verify installation according to BOD, OPR, manufacturer recommendations, and applicable codes; review drawings, conduct site inspections, and ensure proper wiring, grounding, torque, relays, circuit breakers, transformers, and high/medium/low voltage equipment.
- Functional Testing: perform tests to verify operation of switch gear, transformers, breakers, relays, control panels, and other devices.
- Performance Testing: conduct tests to verify performance under normal and peak conditions, including voltage, current, power factor, voltage regulation, insulation resistance, and power quality.
- Protection and Coordination Testing: perform protection coordination testing to ensure protective devices operate correctly.
- Documentation: document all commissioning activities, test procedures and results, equipment specs, and modifications for compliance and handover.
- Training: train operations and maintenance personnel on system operation and maintenance.
- Safety Compliance: ensure commissioning activities comply with safety regulations; implement safety procedures and provide appropriate PPE as needed.
- Commissioning Reports: compile reports summarizing results, identify issues, and provide recommendations for corrective actions or optimization.
- Requirements: strong foundation in electrical engineering (BSEE), practical experience, problem-solving, attention to detail, and ability to work in multidisciplinary teams.
Other essential functions
- Travel to different sites; approximately 75% travel.
- Prepare and submit daily on-site reports.
- Maintain professionalism in all interactions with GC, EC, and Owner; lead meetings and testing on-site.
- Supervise the electrical team on site and manage expense reporting and adherence to company policies.
- Oversee QA/QC and commissioning within areas of responsibility.
- Demonstrate strong organizational and documentation skills.
Working Environment and Physical Demands
- Work in various weather conditions and construction site environments.
- Sanitary facilities usage on-site; work in restricted areas.
- Wear PPE (hard hat, safety glasses) and respirator when required.
- Typically 8-10 hours per day, 40-50 hours per week.
