Overview
V2X Engineering is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Hardware Engineering team in Indianapolis, IN supporting development of a diverse set of mission critical products including ground-based systems, advanced airborne systems, armament equipment, system integrations, radar systems, cockpit displays, and avionics, among others. Our Indianapolis facility also supports a variety of other product lines serving multiple Department of Defense (DoD) customers providing the opportunity to work on a diverse set of programs and roles supporting the continued advancement of your career and opportunity for rapid career advancement.
Responsibilities- Design of new products and test hardware, as well as improvement of existing products.
- Utilize mechanical engineering expertise during proposal and concept generation, product development, production, and qualification testing phases of new product design.
- Design creative solutions that meet product requirements and leverage commercial off the shelf (COTS) products paired with custom hardware.
- Be proficient with 3D modeling and drafting and provide hands-on support for production, integration, and testing.
- Engage vendors, manufacturers, and subject-matter experts to inform design decisions.
- Participate in design reviews at part, subsystem, and system levels including Peer Reviews, DFMAs, PDRs, and CDRs.
- Provide leadership on mechanical designs and mentorship to junior engineers; collaborate with systems, electrical, test, and production engineers.
- Must be a US Citizen with ability to obtain a DoD Secret level clearance
- Ability to work onsite at our Indianapolis, Indiana facility with an Integrated Product Team being hands on with hardware
- A minimum of 5 years professional work experience
- Experience in the design, integration, or testing of mechanical components and assemblies
- Competent using 3-D CAD Modeling Tools (CREO preferred)
- Working knowledge of data management systems (Windchill preferred)
- Proficient in application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (ASME Y14.5)
- Strong planning and organizational skills with adaptability to changing priorities
- Experience performing trade studies
- Self-starter, quick learner, able to function in a dynamic environment with good time management
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Creative thinking and problem solving
- Understanding of manufacturing processes including CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, mechanical assemblies, water jet, laser, welding, EDM, additive manufacturing
- Understanding of aerospace materials and coatings
- Experience capturing key characteristics and requirements for systems
- Design, integration, or test experience in any combination of:
Airborne podded systems;
Airborne armament equipment or mission equipment;
Cockpit displays;
Avionics;
Radar systems;
Mobile ground systems;
Ground vehicle structures;
Custom/COTS electronics including wires, relays, and analog electronics - Design for human factors and safety
