Position Summary
The Elementary Math Coach is a certified instructional leader who supports, develops, and enhances mathematics instruction in grades K-6. This position focuses on improving instructional practice, supporting curriculum alignment, enhancing teacher capacity, and promoting student growth in mathematics. The Math Coach collaborates with district leadership, building administrators, and teachers to implement data-driven instructional practices, coordinate assessments, and support high-quality math teaching and learning.
This position is fully grant-funded through the Lilly Endowment Grant and will continue as long as funding is available through the school year.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Instructional Support
* Provide student-centered coaching to K-6 mathematics teachers through modeling, co-teaching, observation, and actionable feedback.
* Support teachers in implementing high-quality math instruction aligned to district curriculum maps, standards, and best practices for elementary learners.
* Assist staff in analyzing formative and summative assessment data to identify student needs and inform instruction.
* Develop targeted action plans with goals to address identified math gaps and monitor student progress.
* Support the effective use of data platforms, such as EES Innovation, to streamline assessment, reporting, and instructional planning.
* Spend 75% of the time in coaching cycles.
Curriculum, Planning & Assessment
* Collaborate with district Math Coaches to maintain alignment with curriculum maps, instructional frameworks, and common formative assessments (CFAs).
* Support teachers in planning rigorous, standards-based lessons using adopted curriculum (or other district-adopted curriculum), emphasizing conceptual understanding, procedural skill, and application.
* Monitor curriculum fidelity and assist teachers in integrating research-based instructional strategies and grade-level appropriate scaffolds.
Professional Development
* Partner with district and building administrators to plan, create, and deliver mathematics-focused professional development.
* Facilitate workshops, training sessions, and school-based Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) centered on instructional best practices, student data, and curriculum implementation.
* Stay current on trends, research, and innovations in mathematics education and share relevant information with staff.
* Participate in district-level and building-level PLCs focused on continuous improvement in math instruction.
Operational and Instructional Support
* Collaborate with building administrators and math teachers to design and support a daily schedule for math instructional assistants aligned with SPED and ML services.
* Provide guidance, resources, and coaching to instructional assistants to ensure consistent and effective math support.
* Support extended day programs and activities related to math intervention, enrichment, or acceleration.
* Work closely with administrators to include coaching in the School Improvement Plan.
* Act as a liaison between district leadership and classroom teachers to ensure consistent implementation of math initiatives.
Student Support
* Collaborate with teachers and interventionists to develop instructional plans and intervention strategies for students struggling with mathematics.
* Identify and share resources, strategies, and tools to increase student engagement and improve learning outcomes in math (and in supporting areas such as reading and writing when applicable).
* Participate in the monitoring and evaluation of intervention effectiveness and student progress.
* Ensure instruction aligns with Indiana State Standards, ILEARN, and math screeners.
Education and Certification
* Bachelor's degree in Education or related field;
Master's degree preferred.
* Valid Indiana teaching license.
Experience
* Minimum of 3 years of successful classroom teaching experience in mathematics or a related content area.
* Demonstrated experience leading professional development or coaching colleagues.
* Experience using formative and summative data to drive instructional practices.
Skills and Competencies

* Proficiency in analyzing and using student data to drive instructional decision-making.
