Position Description

Summary Of Position And Responsibilities

  • Supervise second shift team members at the Marion facility.
  • Management of personnel, quality control and timeliness of data.
  • Coordinate laboratory resources to meet customer needs.
  • Communicate effectively with direct reports as well as management.
  • Lead the defined sections by motivating, building trust and retaining key employees.

Laboratory Manager

Specific Duties

  • QA/QC Duties
    • Assist the QA Officer with QC assignments and monitor progress.
    • Review Quality Control protocols and ensure procedures are followed.
    • Ensure standard operating procedures are followed.
    • Review routine reports and/or special project reports for accuracy, completeness, timeliness.
    • Sign and certify routine reports and/or special project reports.
    • Review projects and related reports for consistency of data, accuracy, completeness and timeliness.
  • Managerial Responsibilities
    • Operate the defined sections profitably.
    • Prepare employee work schedule and post.
    • Coordinate and prioritize daily duties.
    • Plan and facilitate special projects (check pricing, bottle and preservation requirements, project management).
    • Coordinate lab activities.
    • Review backlog reports daily for due dates and scheduling.
    • Conduct performance evaluations.
    • Responsible for completion of work in designated areas.
    • Approve employee vacation.
    • Determine the number of employees needed with management approval.
    • Develop employee knowledge and skills.
  • Business Duties
    • Provide telephone support with customers regarding projects and complaints.
    • Assist in business development through lab visits, lunches and site visits.
    • Present at conferences and seminars.
  • Analytical Duties
    • Assist as needed in supervised areas and other advanced lab analyses.
    • Provide training and oversight to personnel in specific area of supervision.
    • Provide Quality Assurance Officer with updates of quality and performance problems.
    • Assist with workload and evaluate workload by participating in analyses.

Qualifications

Educational Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in physical, chemical, environmental, biological or engineering sciences and/or the minimum of experience specified below.

Experience Requirements: At least six years of experience in the analysis of environmental samples for organic and inorganic analytes. An advanced degree may be substituted for two years of experience.
