Overview

Manager - DOT Fleet at Mac Allister Machinery Co., Inc. is responsible for the maintenance, procurement, and disposal of the vehicle fleet for the company. This position provides leadership, guidance, training, and technical support to the company’s vehicle fleet.

Position Summary

This position is responsible for the maintenance, procurement, and disposal of the vehicle fleet for the company. In addition, this position provides leadership, guidance, training, and technical support to the company’s vehicle fleet.

Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and strategic direction to ensure we operate in full accordance with the DOT and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulatory framework.
  • Manage, implement, and improve processes to ensure the business units have a viable and well-maintained fleet, develop fleet replacement cycles, capital requirements, and priorities of asset re-deployment.
  • Implement and manage maintenance and repair plan for entire corporate fleet and verify that all such procedures are performed on a timely basis and at the proper interval.
  • Train appropriate individuals on load securement, vehicle safety procedures, defensive driving, pre- and post-checks, vehicle maintenance, and post-accident procedures.
  • Work with applicable business unit heads and vendors to establish standard vehicle specifications per divisional recommendations, as well as leveraging corporate buying power for high-expense items and equipment.
  • Ensure vehicle specifications meet FMCSA regulations.
  • Guarantee each deployed vehicle has necessary regulatory safety items.
  • Oversee installation, maintenance, and operation of fleet telematics and GPS devices, including training and hardware support.
  • Interact with drivers daily, answering any questions and ensuring drivers can safely deliver loads on time and in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws.
  • Provide oversight and assistance to operations as it relates to process development/improvement, PM inspections and compliance, purchasing, tire programs, fleet repairs, maintenance diagnostics, and DOT compliance.
  • Cross-train in all general DOT Compliance Management responsibilities.
Occasional Responsibilities
  • Track, maintain, and store Inspection results (government and internal).
  • Audit hours of service logs (HOS).
  • Maintain master vehicle list in selected software, including oversight of licenses, tags, and registrations.
  • Lead the DOT random drug and alcohol screening program.
  • Monitor fleet trends and make recommendations/decisions based on fleet data analysis.
  • Review pending and upcoming changes to Federal and State DOT regulations to ensure the Company is prepared for future compliance requirements and seek out industry best practices to achieve operational excellence.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Ensures compliance with established corporate standards. Provides knowledge and guidance to business unit leaders based on insights over day-to-day operations of the business. Assists in reviewing and evaluating the work and performance of reporting employees.
Required

Position Requirements
  • Degree or related experience in business, logistics, or fleet operations
  • 7 years or more of experience in fleet operations management and transportation safety management
  • Previous responsibility over multiple business locations or business units
  • Class B CDL
Preferred
  • 10 years or more experience in Fleet Management
  • 5 years or more experience in transportation or heavy equipment sales and rental industry
  • Experience training, managing, or supervising CDL and non-CDL drivers
  • Class A CDL
  • ASE or similar technical certifications

  • Strong multitasking abilities, detail-oriented and self-motivated

  • Professional demeanor with both internal and external contacts including friendly, courteous treatment of peers, and people at all levels inside and outside the organization
