Apex Systems is seeking a Software/Systems Engineer to support a DFAS payroll application. This role involves designing, developing, testing, and maintaining software and systems that enable critical payroll operations. The ideal candidate will have experience with CA-IDMS systems, IBM z/OS, and database management in a secure federal environment.

• Design, develop, document, test, and debug applications software and systems.
• Collaborate with hardware engineers and systems analysts to plan and design solutions.
• Analyze user needs and software requirements to determine feasibility within time and cost constraints.
• Modify existing databases and database management systems.
• Write and code logical and physical database descriptions; direct others in coding descriptions.
• Coordinate software system installations and monitor equipment functioning to ensure specifications are met.
• Optimize CA-IDMS buffer and index tuning for performance.
• Maintain CA-IDMS system generation and security administration.
• Support CA Endevor/DB and REXX programming tasks.
• Work as part of a project team to determine scope, limitations, and deliverables.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
• 2–4 years of relevant experience.

• Knowledge of CA-IDMS system software install and maintenance.
• CA-IDMS database maintenance, buffer tuning, index tuning, and security administration.
• Familiarity with CA Endevor/DB and REXX programming.
• Experience with IBM z/OS environment.
• Proficiency in SQL, Visual Basic, and full software development lifecycle.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.

• Must be U.S. Citizen (No dual citizenship).
