Role Overview

The Child Services Assistant supports the clerical and administrative needs of the office. You will assist with organizing case files, ensuring documentation is properly retained, and supporting staff in connecting clients to resources. This role requires a high level of collaboration and confidentiality. This position is in the Marion North DCS office in Indianapolis, Indiana, and will support staff in Marion County, and surrounding counties as needed.

Salary

This position traditionally starts at an annual salary of $31,668 but may be commensurate with education and job experience.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain a variety of files, update case files as new material is collected, ensure that information is kept organized and that all necessary case documentation is retained in compliance with the record retention policy.
  • Prepare reports involving tabulations and balancing of posted data and simple arithmetic calculations.
  • Answer inquiries over the telephone or in person concerning regulations or procedures within a specialized area.
  • Receive and prepare replies to routine correspondence.
  • Operate office machines related to a specific area of work.
What You’ll Need For Success
  • Working knowledge of administrative work specific procedures.
  • Working knowledge of DCS procedures involved in the gathering and compiling statistical data or information and the preparation of standardized reports.
  • Ability to be tactful in dealing with persons over the telephone and in person.
  • Ability to make clerical decisions regarding appropriate procedures within a specific program area.
  • Working knowledge of computer software systems and data entry procedures.
  • Ability to make simple arithmetic computations.
  • Ability to maintain confidential records.
  • Working knowledge of legal policies and procedures pertaining to the field of DCS child welfare.
  • Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
