Damar is looking for passionate Education Mentors to perform a variety of Para-professional tasks related to the care of individuals served by Damar in the public-school system. This includes participation in activities that promote the development of appropriate daily living, self-help and social skills.

- Ensures client is punctual to class by meeting client at designated area and time before school starts.
- Remains awake and engaged at all times – competently supervising and monitoring the clients. Never leaving clients unattended unless permitted for periods of time based on a client’s Individual Education Plan.
- Effectively responds to and manages crisis situations, which may include client physical aggression, utilizing prescribed verbal intervention or physical management techniques.
- Participates in programs designed to aid in the habilitation, training and treatments of clients.
- Consistently implements Individual Education Plan and behavior management plans to reduce client’s maladaptive behaviors, promote appropriate social behaviors and maximize human potential of each client served.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Be at least 18 to work in our Community Living and Support Services program and at least 21 to work in our Children's Residential program
- Be able to provide formal proof of a high school diploma or GED
- Possess a valid Indiana driver’s license and good driving record
- Successfully complete a pre-employment physical.
- Favorably meet and maintain Damar’s background screening
- Be clear of any felony convictions, substantiated charges of neglect or other disqualifying criminal offenses
Physical
:
Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight (up to 35lbs); to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard;
to travel to other locations using various modes of private and commercial transportation; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.
