Trailer and Truck Mechanic (Tues-Fri, 5:00am - 3:30pm)

Mount Vernon, IN
Under appropriate supervision with latitude for independent judgment, performs a variety of assignments, both technical and clerical, including material receipt, inspections, storage and shipping. The Trailer and Truck Mechanic will perform DOT inspections, repairs, and preventive maintenance on fleet trucks and trailers. Must have strong knowledge of diesel systems, brakes, and hydraulics. Duties require manual, clerical and data entry skills. This job description in no way states or implies that these are the only duties to be performed in this position;

- Perform diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on diesel engines, trailers, and related systems.
- Conduct DOT inspections and ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations.
- Troubleshoot and repair air brake systems, suspension, steering, and hydraulic systems.
- Inspect and repair electrical wiring, lighting systems, and electronic control units.
- Perform preventive maintenance (PMs) including oil changes, filter replacements, lubrication, and tire service.
- Diagnose and repair trailer components such as doors, floors, landing gear, and panels.
- Use diagnostic tools and software to identify issues with engines, transmissions, and after-treatment systems (DEF, DPF).
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and service logs in the company’s maintenance management system.
- Operate shop tools, welding equipment, and diagnostic instruments safely and efficiently.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area in accordance with OSHA and company safety standards.
- Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in heavy truck and trailer repair.
- Strong understanding of diesel engines, air brake systems, and trailer repair.
- Ability to read and interpret maintenance manuals, schematics, and work orders.
- Proficient in the use of diagnostic software and electronic testing equipment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred.
- ASE or equivalent mechanic certification preferred.
