Miami Correctional Facility

As a part of the Indiana Department of Correction, the Miami Correctional Facility promotes public safety by providing meaningful, effective opportunities for successful re‑entry. The Miami Correctional Facility is a maximum-security correctional facility for adult males. The Miami Correctional Facility is located in Bunker Hill.

Miami Correctional Facility is on the southeast corner of the Grissom Aeroplex, just south of Peru, Indiana, in Miami County. Miami Correctional Facility offers several opportunities for work and educational programs, including a program where incarcerated individuals translate reading materials to Braille and a sewing shop that provides items for partner organizations. Employees at Miami Correctional Facility support the safe and secure operations of the facility 24 hours a day 7 days per week.

Depending on operational needs, assignments will include working with state incarcerated individuals and/or federal detainees.

Role Overview

As a Correctional Intelligence Officer at the Miami Correctional Facility, you will work with a small team of Investigators and Intelligence Analysts in a maximum-security Indiana Department of Correction facility for adult males. A Correctional Intelligence Officer helps contribute to the safety and security of the facility by investigating incidents related to the correctional facility, including but not limited to misconduct by incarcerated individuals or staff, illegal activity by visitors and volunteers, and policy violations, to name a few.

A typical day for a Correctional Investigator includes reviewing Digital Video footage, monitoring phone calls, and investigating incidents. Correctional Investigators typically work 8‑hour days Monday through Friday and respond to the facility after hours for significant incidents.

Salary Statement

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $42,900.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience. Eligible non‑custody staff who complete required training and certification to perform federal detention duties will receive a $20 non‑discretionary bonus for each shift that they are assigned those duties.

A Day in the Life

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Investigate incidents/accidents involving staff, offenders, or others associated with the facility.
  • Gather evidence, recover, and accurately label items considered evidence for future use in internal/external cases.
  • Complete and provide reports, information, and criminal intelligence to outside agencies when appropriate.
  • Conduct criminal investigations involving outside agencies when appropriate.
  • Conduct inspections of facility to determine whether security concerns exist and ensure compliance with applicable regulations and ACA standards.
  • Participate in trials, provide testimony as expert witness, and testify in court hearings.
  • Observe offender activities and line movements to report issues.

What You'll Need for Success

You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:

  • High School Diploma or High School Equivalent (HSE).
  • Two (2) years of full‑time experience in corrections, investigative work, law enforcement, or military police. At least one (1) year of experience must be in investigative work.
