Security Role

Security role at Ivy Tech Community College

Maintains a safe and secure environment for students, customers and employees by patrolling and monitoring premises and personnel.

Responsibilities
  • Secures premises and personnel by patrolling property; monitoring surveillance equipment; inspecting buildings, equipment, and access points; permitting entry.
  • Examines doors, windows, and gates to ensure security; uses college keys to open and close buildings.
  • Prevents losses and damage by reporting irregularities; informing violators of policy and procedures.
  • Prepares routine, standardized reports by recording observations, information, occurrences, and surveillance activities.
  • Provides escort services for visitors, students, staff, and faculty as necessary.
  • Patrols and monitors assigned parking areas and/or parking garages to provide public security and assistance.
  • Serves as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act.
  • Acts as a first responder to any campus emergency.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
  • This position reports directly to the Public Safety Campus Lead.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma and/or equivalent (GED).
  • Must be adept at resolving individual and group conflicts, and must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Must possess excellent organizational, planning, evaluation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with colleagues both in and outside of the organization.
  • Ability to work independently without direct supervision.
