The part-time lab research assistant will assist research laboratories as part of the Research Facilities and Operations Team within Stark Neurosciences Research Institute at Indiana University School of Medicine in the management of core equipment/shared facilities.
Department-Specific Responsibilities- Maintains shared resources such as dry ice and liquid nitrogen (LN2), and carbon dioxide (CO2).
- Monitors incoming and outgoing mail, packages, and large equipment deliveries.
- Oversees services essential to the function of everyday laboratory activities.
Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. Education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience. Work experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted for education.
EDUCATION / WORK EXPERIENCE- Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of experience in a laboratory setting; OR
- Associate’s degree and 4 years of experience in a laboratory setting.
- Ability to understand instructions, laboratory, and lab safety skills.
- Customer service skills.
- Ability to learn quickly.
- Training and teaching skills.
- Problem solving skills.
- Basic knowledge of scientific instrumentation.
- Ability to multitask.
- Ability to work well with people.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office 365.
Physical and mental demands the role regularly requires includes the ability to effectively communicate. The role frequently requires the ability to move about the work environment and to position oneself to operate laboratory equipment effectively. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without accommodation.

Autoclave, dishwasher, water filtration systems, CO2 incubators, centrifuges, biological safety cabinets, computers (Microsoft Windows).
