Overview
At Lilly, we unite caring with discovery to make life better for people around the world. We are a global healthcare leader headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana. Our employees around the world work to discover and bring life-changing medicines to those who need them, improve the understanding and management of disease, and give back to our communities through philanthropy and volunteerism. We give our best effort to our work, and we put people first.
We’re looking for people who are determined to make life better for people around the world.
The Biologist - Psychiatry, Pain and Neuronal Health Discovery will contribute to a multidisciplinary research team focused on understanding the cellular and circuit-level mechanisms underlying psychiatric and neurological diseases. This role will support neuroscience discovery efforts through a combination of molecular biology, histology, imaging, and in vivo experimental approaches
. The successful candidate will work closely with scientists to design and execute experiments aimed at interrogating neural circuits, cellular mechanisms, and therapeutic targets in the brain.
- Experimental Research:
Design and execute laboratory experiments to support neuroscience target discovery and validation - Contribute to studies investigating neural circuits, synaptic biology, and brain disease mechanisms
- Analyze and interpret experimental data and communicate findings to the research team
- Histology and Imaging:
Perform tissue processing and histological techniques including, Immunohistochemistry (IHC), fluorescent labeling, RNAscope - Prepare brain sections and support imaging workflows using fluorescence or confocal microscopy
- Perform image analysis and quantitative assessment of histological endpoints
- Molecular and Biochemical Assays:
Conduct molecular and biochemical assays including:
Western blot, ELISA, qPCR - Assist with tissue processing and sample preparation for downstream analyses
- In Vivo Studies (Desirable):
Support in vivo studies in rodent models, including tissue collection and experimental procedures - Contribute to stereotaxic surgical procedures and neural circuit manipulation experiments when needed
- Collaboration:
Work closely with cross-functional scientists to plan and execute experiments - Maintain detailed experimental records and ensure high-quality data generation
- Present results in internal meetings and contribute to research documentation
- Basic Qualifications
:- MS in Neuroscience, Biology, Pharmacology, or a related discipline
- 1–4 years of relevant laboratory experience
- Qualified applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Lilly will not provide support for or sponsor work authorization or visas for this role, including but not limited to F-1 CPT, F-1 OPT, F-1 STEM OPT, J-1, H-1B, TN, O-1, E-3, H-1B1, or L-1.
- Preferred Experience
:- Experience with brain histology and tissue processing
- Familiarity with RNAscope or other RNA detection methods
- Experience with fluorescence or confocal microscopy
- Hands-on experience with Western blot, ELISA, or qPCR
- Experience working with rodent models in a neuroscience research setting
- Familiarity with stereotaxic surgery, cannulation, or chemo genetic techniques
- Experience with image analysis software (Image
J, Imaris, HALO, etc.) - Experience studying synaptic biology, neural circuit function, or neuroimmune interactions is a plus.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary research environment
