Position OverviewThe purpose of an Oncology Technician Assistant is to assist the oncology technicians and veterinarians in providing compassionate high-quality care to our patients. This position will include assisting with oncology-specific restraint, diagnostics, and procedures. Oncology Technician Assistants are expected to complete a daily checklist that will aid in improving workflow, quality of care, and help sustain a comfortable environment for patients during appointments.
Responsibilities- Restrain for various procedures, treatments, and exams
- Prepare lab samples for shipment to external laboratories
- Assist doctor with exams
- Prepare patient for discharge- (clean, owner items are collected, medications to go home)
- Maintain a clean environment and cleaning runs/kennels when patients are discharged
- Assist with patient treatments, including restraint for chemotherapy treatments, as directed by head technician
- Follow chemotherapy safety protocols, including proper handling, cleaning, and disinfecting of contaminated excretions and/or bodily fluids (urine, feces, vomit, blood)
- Checking on all oncology patients during down time and walking patients if indicated
- Perform daily check list including cleaning, stocking, laundry, etc.
- Restraining for IVC placement/venipuncture
- Running in house bloodwork (machine only)
- Assisting in radiographs and restraint for ultrasound
- Setting up for procedures and cleaning up after
- Completing body care for deceased pets
- Communicating with clients in a compassionate manner and documenting client communication as needed
- Filling oral prescriptions
- Assist with ER and other specialties during down time
Monday, Wednesday, Thursday 8a-4p
· Assist with ER during downtime
Requirements- Previous experience at a small animal hospital
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent client service skills and phone etiquette
- Self-motivation
- Attention to detail
- Able to lift up to 50+ lbs without assistance
- Able to stand and sit for extended periods of time
- Able to constantly lift, bend and handle heavy objects on occasion
- Complies with Infection Control, Standard Precautions and OSHA standards for the healthcare professional
- Able to wear personal protective equipment (e.g. face masks, goggles, latex/non-latex gloves) as needed.
- Ability to safely work with hazardous drugs, including chemotherapy agents, in accordance with safety protocols
- Willingness to work some holidays
- Ability to work successfully independently, as well as on a team
- Flexible with work hours and able to work additional hours when necessary
- Demonstrates a sense of urgency
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to organize and complete work in a timely manner
- Ability to understand medical terminology as it applies to their duties
- Prioritization and time management skills
- Working quickly without compromising quality
- Fear free certified or willing to become certified
- High school degree

Compensation
: $16.00 to $19.00 base pay depending on experience level
