Crew Leader (Crew Foreperson) – Lewis Services

- Supervise daily crew operations, ensure safe, efficient practices and coach crew members.
- Plan and assign tasks based on crew skills and job requirements.
- Monitor performance and facilitate training, promotion, and disciplinary actions.
- Maintain accurate crew contact information and report fitness‑for‑duty concerns.
- Conduct field training, retraining, and job briefings.
- Enforce safety standards, report unsafe conditions or incidents immediately.
- Identify hazards and implement safeguards (barriers, warning signs).
- Make work‑slowdown decisions due to weather or safety concerns.
- Perform tree trimming, removal, and clearance near energized lines using climbing or aerial lift techniques.
- Operate equipment (trucks, chippers, aerial lifts, power saws).
- Interpret work orders, utility drawings, and line voltage symbols.
- Maintain clean, organized work vehicles and job sites.
- Communicate with property owners, obtain access, and secure written permissions.
- Build positive relationships with customers, the public, utility reps, and contractors.
- Cooperate with emergency services when blocking streets or driveways.
- Maintain accurate records and reports on crew performance, incidents, equipment issues, and completed work.
- Investigate incident reports and damage claims.
- Monitor and control crew costs through efficient use of resources and equipment.
- Stay informed on company policies, union agreements, and equipment standards.
- Respond to emergencies to eliminate hazards and assist in service restoration.
- Make sound judgments in urgent scenarios to protect life and property.
- Request repairs for major tools or equipment as needed.
- Travel frequently, including overnight stays, as required.
- Perform additional related duties as assigned.
- At least 3 years of tree crew or utility vegetation management experience.
- Knowledge of ANSI Z133 Safety Requirements and A300 Pruning Standards.
- Proficient in identifying poisonous plants.
- Strong understanding of electrical circuit basics and circuit map interpretation.
- Advanced skills in tree ascent/descent using ropes, safety saddles, and aerial lift operations.
- Completion or ability to obtain Crew Leader Technical Knowledge and Skills Certification.
- Valid driver’s license and required medical certification; CDL as needed.
- Licensed for safe herbicide use; maintain required training and licenses.
- CPR and First Aid certification (provided by Lewis).
- Strong leadership, communication, and decision‑making skills.
- Compliance with all applicable state, local, and federal regulations.
- Lift 50 lbs. to shoulder height or higher.
- Push or pull up to 50 lbs.
- Walk or hike up to one mile on uneven terrain.
- Endure extreme climate variations (severe cold to high heat/humidity).
- Operate two‑handed tools and equipment.
- Maintain skill in tree ascent/descent; work at heights in adverse weather.
- Aerial lift trucks, dump trucks, ATVs, chainsaws, pole saws, handsaws, chippers.
- Blowers, pruners, rakes, winches, ropes, climbing gear (harnesses, chaps, spikes).
- Sprayer applicators, pump sprayers, herbicide applicators, fuel, cones, signs.
