Responsibilities
- Monitors animals' responses to anesthetics. Responds appropriately to anesthetic changes with knowledge of drugs and medical interventions.
- Performs euthanasia to animals according to AVMA Guidelines, under the direction of a veterinarian and other regulations, policies, or guidelines, and monitors animals' responses to anesthetics so that dosages can be adjusted.
- Executes prompt examination of animals reported with health problems.
- Adheres to all appropriate SOPs, Research Compliance directives, accreditation standards, regulations and laws.
- Maintains accurate record keeping with electronic or paper medical records.
- Develops excellent veterinary technician skills.
- Maintains controlled substance inventory and related log books.
LABORATORY ANIMAL RESOURCES (IN-LARS-IUINA)
Education- Associate's degree in veterinary technology, biology, animal science, or related field
- 1 year Animal care experience
- Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) – Preferred: 1 year within date of hire
- Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) – Preferred
- Proficient communication skills
- Maintains a high degree of professionalism
- Demonstrates time management and priority setting skills
- Demonstrates a high commitment to quality
- Possesses flexibility to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment
- Highly thorough and dependable
- Possesses a high degree of initiative
- Ability to build strong customer relationships
The role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. The role frequently requires the ability to move about the work environment and to position oneself to operate laboratory equipment effectively. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
